Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
Hmm they could give the VIPs video of the matches but for the actual participants in the pits it wasn't worth it?

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
If I remember correctly, it is trivial for the production company to hook into the feed in the dome. Those feeds across the dome are all linked. But that same feed does not go back to the GWCC. Also, the cost is minimal because all the monitors exist and are in place. It's more or less a cable connection (maybe I'm oversimplfying). The GWCC involves renting rigging, projectors, and screens as well as cost to assemble/disassemble and provide a feed.

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
It looks kind of 80's disco to me. My favorite things are the orbit balls laying around to play with!

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
I had my fill of being down at field level earlier in the competition. After a day on my feet and having just finished packing up our pit, I was more than content to sit and do this:
![]() Nice. Quiet. Peaceful. Comfortable. Although I must admit that what appears on the TV's may qualify as "Copioli Overload". ![]() And yes, I was qualified to be up there. |

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
And it only took them like 22 tries to get that little bit of video...all Paul's fault I'm sure...

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
There's a reason why VIP's get first dibbs on videos of matches.......they are the ones supporting FIRST to make it all happen.

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
I think I want to be a VIP when I grow up...
Actually, as comfortable as that looks, I'd rather be on the field. It's part of the experience for me. ![]() |

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
It's at least as comfortable for volunteers acting as VIP guides.

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
Although cool, this photo completely misses the best part of the VIP lounge - The VIPs!
I met some very interesting people there this year. I got to eat with the founder of Java, the founder of Luminary Micro, and the co-founder of NI. Do I get some sort of founder finder award? |

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
I'm trying to imagine which VIP would, if given the choice, deny the participants a chance to see video of the matches as they occur.

Re: pic: VIP Viewing Lounge
I got to go up there last year, and also got to have lunch with Dr. Murphy. He's just an awesome person. I was there with my old mentor (WFA winner Mike Bastoni), and we had a blast. Also, they have even better than windows, they get doors out to the upper deck, so they can watch Galileo and Curie from above whenever they want (until Einstein, where the upper deck is open to everyone).
I still have an unopened bottle of FIRST logo water from the coolers up there. |
