Would you like to travel back to your childhood for a day?

After thinking back in the Nostalgia, I recall some really good childhood memories. Things were better then, nothing to worry about, just being me. It felt like I had all the time in the world, until you had to grow up, when so much more were suddenly expected of you like work and such.

I would literary give anything to go back to that period of my life for just a day, my childhood. When nothing bothered you and you were free from all pressure and concern. Would you do the same? Or was your childhood just something you wanted to grow out of quickly?

Luckily I have some of my memories left, and not just in my head. For instance, I have still got my old car collection, with all of the 12 cars from one of the series, in mint condition. And that is something I will never sell, never leave behind, since it's one of my greatest reminders of the good old days, when everything was fine.

How about you? What are your greatest childhood memories? Would you like to travel back to your childhood, even if for just a day? I sure know I would...

I liked my childhood, but I don't think I would want to repeat it all over again, especially if I knew what it was like to be older but no one else knew I had traveled into my past. I would like to go back in time to whip my robotics team into shape at an earlier time, so I could enjoy it for more than a year when it was revitalized. Since I'm graduating in a year, I only have a limited amount of time to work with. Here's hoping.

I'm sure there are many days I would like to relive and they would fall into one of two categories: one of the totally glorious days, or one of the days that I totally screwed things up and ruined a chance for a life-long friendship with someone - if going back could give me a chance to do it better the 2nd time around.

But the first thought that came to me was actually neither of these. As a child I lived in a very rural area, and one of our nearest neighbors was this dear old woman (she was always old to me but if I look back, I have no idea of how old she was.) She was from Germany and lived alone. Miss B. was the most fascinating woman - a naturalist, a farmer, steeped in a culture foreign to me, independant, and enchanting. I know that she was one who greatly shaped me for the future (now today) and I would love a day to go back and have a chance to recollect some of those memories of her and with her that have faded through the years.

I'd like to make a few stops along the path of childhood.

One stop would be to spend some time with my Dad. I would love an opportunity to try to know him better. He was gone a lot overseas during my childhood and he died of cancer when I was a teenager.

Another stop would be to spend time playing board games on the summer porch with my maternal grandmother, soaking up her humor and her wisdom.

A third stop would be a visit to my paternal grandmother's house in Tennessee for the chance to memorize and remember all the salt and pepper shakers displayed on a corner shelf in her kitchen, and for a chance to listen to her quiet humming while she prepared meals.

I'd like to play another butt-kicking game or two of Red Rover in 5th grade and this time, I'd bring along some of my awesome human player FIRST friends to play with me and win. Total.

I can still 'smell' places in my memory and that brings a contentment, but a brief visit with my loved ones and friends would be very nice.
