What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

I was just wondering what people preferred, in terms of events.

personally, i thought the championship was incredible, but it feels like regionals were more fun (in terms of the actual competition), since we were rookies and didn't do well in Atlanta.

if i've missed something important in my list, post it as "other"

Re: What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

Districts are fun, except for the no down time thing at the first one you go to. Never been to Champs so I can't say anything about them, but Offseason events like MARC and such are alot like the districts an are pretty fun.

Re: What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

I said regional because aside from Ramp Riot twice, and PARC once, I have only been to Regionals in my life. I like all the atmosphere of the teams around, everyone is trying to win so they can go on to Championships, people are cheering, it's so much fun. Also, at every Regional, my team has the opportunity to win an award for design or one of the other auxiliary awards. Off seasons don't offer that much excitement for me, since my team never wins and hasn't one a single game-related trophy since PARC in 2006 (which I was too young to even see). However, I hope to go to Atlanta this year, even if I don't win a Regional.

Re: What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

Regionals all the way.
Pure adrenyln rush.
IRI is a blast (as is Battlecry) but they don't have the spit in polish of a regional (though Battlecry sure comes close).
The championship is very breathtaking to behold and the level of competition is unmatched but you don't get the vibe of excitement you do at the regionals.
The other events are side things you do to maintain the team.

Re: What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

This is my first year, so I don't have any experience with off season or anything outside of the Colorado Regional and the championship, but I think I enjoyed the regional a lot more than championship. Mostly because we didn't do too well at championship, and since we were snowed in the first day of Colorado, we got a chance to meet a lot of people from the teams who were in the same hotel as us. At championships I spent half my time following the drive team around since I was on field media duty, I didn't get as much of a chance to talk to other people and do stuff

Come on Fuzzy! Everyone knows that you make down time! Me and Krystal stayed up all night waiting for Chealsea and Kathryn. That was our down time! Anyways I love all events! I love Kickoff the most because it was my first ever experience with robotics!!!!!!! It sealed the deal.

My favorite event is championships hands down because I think it is the coolest thing walking out on the Georgia dome floor and looking up to see all the crowds. I will always remember the first time I walked out of the tunnel it is the most amazing feeling in the world.

Man, I've heard other people say that before on these forums. I want to go to Atlanta so badly, but my team just can't raise the money (or a good robot...). Hopefully next year.

Re: What's YOUR favorite type of FRC event?

In terms of dollars per excitement, off-seasons take the cake.

However, I voted for regionals for one specific reason...Boilermaker.

When I was a freshman at Purdue, I heard the BMR was going to be in the armory. I was in AFROTC at the time and spent a good portion of my time in said armory, so my first thought was, "But, it's way too small to hold a regional." At that point, I had only been to Midwest, Buckeye, Arizona, and WDW/Houston/Altanta for Champs. The three regionals I had attended were all in collegiate basketball stadiums.

As it turns out, the thing I was most worried about is what makes BMR such a treat. The stands are literally right on top of the field, and they are on both long sides of the field. On each side, there is about a five foot walkway, then the stands start. The crowd is awesome. Comparing the crowd at Purdue to Atlanta is like comparing the crowds at a Duke-UNC February basketball game to the crowd at the Final Four. Sure, there are more people at the Final Four game, but with the set-up in a football stadium (ironic how those stadiums are used for both examples), you lose some of the crowd atmosphere.

As it usually works out, for the finals, one alliance is cheered on by one side of the stands, and one is cheered on by the other side.

Also, as with most regionals, it's typically the same people who compete at BMR each year, leading to some good (friendly) rivalries.

Plus, now that I'm an alumnus, it gives me another good reason to go back to campus.

Five years strong. Boiler up.
