seriously...and its especially ironic that we go to a jesuit high school and the faculty still puts 'mindless fighting and hitting' ahead of educational stuff like robotics...

: Yeah, it sux. I can't believe that something so in tune with the learning process isn't even considered a real sport. Of corse mindless fightning and hitting is glorified, even by the very faculty who does the teaching. We had a hard time getting days off for Florida. Rugby didn't seem to have difficulty going to Texas, and that was school funded. We don't get a pep rally, we get ignored. We don't get nice team shirts from our school, we get ignored. We don't get a P.A. announcement or high fives when we come back from a competition, we get ignoreed. I don't think we should be considered a school sport because we're better then that.

: : Robotics in general don't get enough recognition at our

Well the main reason for all our set backs this year was because of Fr. Kelley, he halted our fund raising and school support, but now that he's gone... we can pretty much do wateva. Mr. Hughes was totally supporting us, he got us money and such. So I think lots of things will change (for the better) now that Fr. Kelley's gone.

Fr. Kelly have left the building!!! Finally he left after a year. We now can do some fund raising and not get shot down because of some unknown reasons. With Mr. Hughes and whoever is our new President, we should get what we need to do done.

Balfour does not recognize FIRST in any way...but then you just need to come up with creative ways to get around it.

A couple of members of our team, instead of getting their name on the side got "SIEH2OBOTS", and then inscribed their name on the inside....and some did the reverse. My class ring isn't your normal shape and so my selection was really limited....I have music notes on one side and "01" on the other, but I still love it

Josten's does the school rings at my high school, I was really disappointed I couldn't get a FIRST logo on it! Instead of my name being on the outside though i put the word FIRST, and had my name engraved inside! My team doesn't exist according to my schools eyes, its kind of disappointing, We're trying to get more support at the school though. Our new athletic director thinks FIRST is really cool so he has offered us a spot in the next pep rally at the school, also on move up day when the 8th graders come up we are allowed to give a presentation to the kids to try and recruit them. Recognition is getting better but we still need to get more kids involved, we have low turnout rates to meetings and would love to get more school members involved but don't know how... Any ideas?

Just buy some quarter inch aluminum or steel or (or whatever they make rings out of), bring it over to a lathe, make a cylinder with an outer diameter slightly larger than finger, then drill out an inner hole. Next, bring to a automated mill and engrave the FIRST logo.

Hmm.... i don't have the greatest machining experience... perhaps one of the engineers would care to explain their preferred methods of making rings with cooler machinery.

Patrick

: Does anybody know if any ring store that sells high
: school class rings, with the FIRST logo. The
: largest ring store, Balfour, that are school uses,
: has lots of organizations, sports, and mascots, for
: their rings, but not FIRST.

: If you going to spend a lot of money on a ring, you
: better have it with an organization that you spend
: the most time with.
