Accelerometer

I have to develop an air mouse kind of remote. I have studied that we need to use accelerometer. Is the gyro required for two dimensional movement? i just need the x,y position of the cursor when the remote is moved. I am in a confusion whether to use gyro or not. can anyone please help me regarding this?

Re: Accelerometer

An accelerometer measures linear acceleration, push and pull in one direction. A Gyro measures rotational speed, spin around and axis. I would suggest a 2 axis accerlerometer, it will give readings on a x and a y axis, you can work on these to get the data you need for your mouse.
