I don't think anything of this type would render FIRST as a commercial entity but rather just open the door to more and more individuals w/ and w/o teams. The point is to get the message out there, to teach kids about science and technology, and the 'community' feel that exists in FIRST exists in it's own way in Battlebots and other groups.. it's not lost by popularity, just increased..

MrB has it all right.. and as one of the many buff brains behind BBIQ, you'll see that the point is not such to knock FIRST out of the game or make FIRST have to 'compete' for the same type of recognition but rather to provide the same INSPIRATION to students... and that's what it's all about..

In the same respect as this year's competition, which was designed so we were less competing, but more working together to achieve a common goal.. things like FIRST & BBIQ are not designed to compete against each other but rather acheive a common goal..

There are only things to be gained, so I think.
