Re: Bridgewater-Raritan Battle Royale

Team 1676 had a great time at (BR)^2. Lots of action, great rules modifications, and superb announcing. Nice venue, too, can't wait for the next one!

Woody Flowers was on hand, and he received a special award there. It's not my place to go into the details, so I ask someone directly involved to create athread on that topic. But, we got him to sign our robot!

We all had a lot of fun. In the image below, we see Wayne Cokeley being "taken for a ride" by his team.

Both 1923 and 2753 went undefeated in qualifiers.

After an odd elimination structure the final alliances were the number 1 and 2 seeds.

First Seed was 1923, 25, and 1048

Second Seed was 2753, 102, and 136

Second Seed won.

Design award went to 1279, highest seed to 1923, and highest score to 2753, 102, and 136. That is all I can remember.

It was an awesome event, many thanks to 303, Bridgewater's AP physics class(?), and all the volunteers that put it on. Also, congrats to 1923, 25, and 1048, it was awesome playing once again.

I guess we'll have to be very patient and wait to hear about Dr. Flowers receiving the Dave Beck Award. It must have been one of the very special moments that happens when FIRSTers are involved.

no need to wait- YES- Dr. Flowers was there.

BR2 sponsored an award to honor the memory of our friend from team 103 Dave Beck. Dr Flowers was working with Dave on FIRST related business at the time of his unexpected death and came to know him. He believed that he was presenting the award to some worthy mentor in Dave's memory.

But there was a twist. When Dave was awarded the Woodie Flowers Award in NJ years ago a student from team 303 was quoted as saying "if there was a Dave Beck Award it would go to Woodie Flowers". So the BR2 management thought it fitting to do just that and therefore the first Dave Beck Award was given to our much admired master mentor. Woodie was moved to tears and it was a very special moment.

Later he spent most of the day with us on the teams talking about FIRST and our dreams of it's future. I know I came away from the day with a lot of hope.

there it is in a nutshell-

I believe the proper phrase was something along the lines of "If there ever was a dave beck award, Woody Flowers himself would be humbled to receive it."
