Robin Shoop, Tim Friez, and a research team at Pittsburg University have been working for a year or more on the Robot Algebra Project. As director for the Texas Institute for Educational Robotics, I couldn't wait to get this stuff in front of teachers. I've got a dozen math teachers who have just finished working through the main unit of study called, "Dancing Robots." I spent the day cutting and titling the raw video from the camcorder onto YouTube. Take a look at the videos and post your which one is your favorite and why.
The challenge with the dancing pairs or trio is that the robots had to have different wheel bases and/or tire diameters so ratios and proportionality had to be used to adjust the program for the second robot. |
