Best Matches of 2002

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the year's offical competitions as far as awesome matches, I didn't get to see every competition but here are my votes from what I've seen (they are proabably somewhat team influenced) So feel free to share yours!:

MMR Match 65:Download Here!

Teams: Red: 111 & 269 Blue: 109 & 235

This is a great and somewhat funny match, it was the last match on Friday for us, and we had a good strategy worked out w/ WildStang, except as you can see our rollers jammed, so we try to ram the goal to un-jam them, doesnt work, SO we dump what we have and let WildStang do their thing, we have nothing to do for a while, so we see 235's tether come out and decide to chase it around for a while, then lose interesting, I heard this got a great laugh in the pits while teams were watching in there.

Final Score: 38-37 Red gets 111 QP (WildStangs #!)

MMR SF2 M1:
Download

Teams: Red 71 & 519 (107) Blue: 269 & 201 (93)

This is just a great exciting match to watch if you haven't seen it, I really had no idea what we were going to do to beat Beatty, but they set up on the outside, and the FEDS were able to hold them to only 1 goal, but 519 pushed and got 2 goals on the rail, and had us and the FEDS fighting them until about 19 secs left when something gave and we pulled the 2 goals and 519 into our EndZone, definetely one of the most exciting at MMR.

Final Score: Blue 30- Red 14

Championship Finals Match 2:

I'm pretty sure I have the Match # right, this is where SPAM took Beatty out of the match and just dominated, turn them around makgin them unable to get a goal, and stole the goal full of balls to win and make a comeback run.

I believe the score was 76-20, great match.

So those are mine, lets hear yours.....

mine

My three favorite matches were:

3) National Semis Blue: 71, 66 vs Red: 60, ?

Anyway, 60 shot out to grab two goals and were met by 71 in the red goal zone. 60 had two goals, 71 had 3. 60 pushed 71 back to the blue home zone, and then 71's 'feet' hit the carpet and slowly walked 3 goals and 2 robots back into the blue goal zone. The best part: After the fact we find out that only one side of 71 had touched the carpet. They moved all that with only 1 'foot'!!
Final: Red wins 40 something to 10

2) Newton divison playoffs 173, 66 vs 65, ?

Rage(173) was bet by huskie brigade(65) at the goal closest to Rage. There was a short stuggle and the 173 took control and went on to drag around the goal like the huskies weren't there and fill the goal with balls.

Final: 173, 66 win

1) National Finals match 3 red 173, 66 vs 180, 311

This match was won by balls. It showed everybody that had said that balls don't have much impact in the finals that they were wrong. Anyway, 66 held a goal in the red goal zone and 173 filled it with balls. At the last minute 173 came to the blue goal zone and pushed one of their goals into the balls only zone.
Final: Red wins!!

I think that the best match the Season was at UTC Regional Match 60:

151 & 166 Vs. 176 & 145

I know I'm on 151 so this is probaly going to be biased, but it was a really good match

The highlight of the entire match was when 145 pulled 151 up on it's side, 151 was compltely helpless then 166 came over then while defending a goal from being pushed in to the apposing zone, managed to right 151. Then 151 went to 176's teather and pulled it out of there robot scoring zone so they could not get ten points. through out the match 151 played excellent defence, 176 & 145 gave 151 & 166 a real fight but 151 & 166 won the match I can not remember the exact score but it was a great match loved by all.

the best match i have ever seen (i know it says this year but i still want to say this) was back in 99..... it was at the philly regionals and i have no idea which teams were involved anymore

for anyone who wasnt around, that was the year we had to lift the floppys 8ft off the floor or something for them to be worth 3 points.... well with a whole stack of them, the mechanisms to do that were around 13ft..... 13ft high and under 130lbs is not a good combination

what was the result? 3 of the 4 robots on the field went over... a huge arm almost took out the camera man (it was sticking out maybe 5 ft).... and 2 of the robots were hanging way into the crowd and over the top of the drivers

it was a complete disaster and im sure thats why none of the field challenges have required that much hight since

if ANYONE remembers this and has a video PLEASE send it to me.... i would love to see it again

well our robot tipped over and we won because of that closest fight we had so funny though because i saw the look of our one teamate who was there last year unfournately the robot last year tipped over also but oddly enough no one knew that the robot tipped back into our zone so we had 10 points all along the other team didn't know that

My Fav

My favorite match was number one at National in the Red division right after opening ceromonys with Dean right there. We were up against 2 regional champs: 16 and 103 on the red side, and we were with 204 in the blue side. Well right off the bat our ally died and we thought we were done for. But our BSH Tobor 5 came thru and won with the score of 48-40. I almost died after that it was such a ruch.

Somebody on RAGE said that Semi-final match one was good... but what about match two?

173, 71 vs 60, 64

60 and my team rushed out and pushed two of the goals into our scoring position. Once we saw 60 grab on, we 'swerved' back to the other goal and also pushed it into scoring position. At that point, 71 was on the ground and about to give us trouble. Our human players however tamed the beast by throwing a ball in between it and the goals. This kept them out of the action, and let the match come down to my team vs 173 for the match.

Proving that maneuverability can be more effective than power, we kept 173 pinned between the outside wall and 71 as it tried to put one of the goals into its scoring position. As we moved from side to side like a crab keeping 173 from doing anything, the timer approached the 15 second mark and everyone saw a clean victory... that was until for some reason both our robot and team 60s robot got shut off. 71 still couldn't do anything, but 173 was able to push by our shut off robot and put a goal into scoring position.

They ended up winning, but I love the match none the less. It was very exciting, and I am happy that we at least had them beat until a mysterious technical difficulty

I was talking about the other match. When 71 walked almost the entire length of the field.

Post Most interesting match of the 2002 season.

MERGED IN FROM NEWER THREAD

Hey Guys,
I was just talking the other day with my roommate, and we were discussing some of the exciting matchups we saw from the 2002 season. I'm just wondering what everyone's favorite/most interesting/most exciting match they saw in 2002 is.

What cool ones did you see on video or in person?

Please, please, please don't post about YOUR team's matches. It takes some of the fun out of it.

One of my favorite ones was between Beatty and Hotbot/TruckTown at nationals. I've only seen the video tape of it but I'll never forget the first time I saw it.

Hotbot came off the line and beat Beatty to the goals and I thought for sure they would win the match with balls. Then I noticed that Beatty had accidently snagged them with their gripper. The image of Beatty retracting their arm and just dragging Hotbot across the floor is still burned into my head.

So basically, Beatty had 2 goals, and a pet-hotbot. Then Trucktown comes over with another goal and tries to spin Beatty (unsuccesfully). In the end, Beatty just marched on down the field with 3 goals, and 2 robots attached to them.

I got to see both Hotbot and TruckTown in Cleveland, and they were both really impressive bots. That's what makes this match that much more amazing in my mind.

That's what I call incredible.

Now everyone tell me... What's YOUR favorite?

The most memorable part of 2002 for me was not in a match at all, it was a practice round. I was scouting out some robots on thursday in florida, and i watched RAGE fill a goal with balls.

This may not sound very amazing, but they only missed a few of the 60 available balls, and ALL these balls were in a single goal. In addition to this, they filled it in just over two minutes.... from that second i knew who would at least win newton.... i guess i was right, as they won it all...

Thats what i call incredible

Well I'm not going to Limit it to just one here are a few great ones in my mind. In no particular order

1. 45 tipping over truck town at the Buckeye regional, Truck town had the goal and 45 started pulling, and T3 got turned sideways, and then got dragged right over.

2. The 237,173,155 alliance vs 190,121,311 at Battlecry. It was a great ball bot battle, with 173 eventually getting knocked over and pushed into the other endzone. This match was great because it went right down to the wire.

3. The National Finals were great with 311,308,180 Vs 173,71,66.
180 handed 71 probably the soundest beating they got all year, But 173 and 66 came back to win it in the third match.

4. The Match in the Finals of Long Island where 173 Dragged 56 and two goals Sideways across the field. This was the first regional i witnessed, and i was amazed at the power of 173 for a ball bot.

5. The Utc Finals were intriging espcially since the Alliance of three ball bots Won 121, 69, 103. A lot of people doubted when this alliance was picked, but they certainly proved everybody wrong in a big way.

6. The False start that involved team 60 where the clock was at like 1:56 when the crew killed all the bots and 60 already had the goals

Those stick out most in my mind.
