Re: New game clue from Bill's Blog

Sometimes when someone says "now that's using your head!" it's because someone else hit their head on something and clotheslined themselves.

Five (six?) foot high hanging bar? And takers? Bueler?

Also, I really appreciate the part about them striving for simpler more concise rules. Shorter, simpler rules help everyone.

Must...resist...temptations...to analyze...possible game hint... >.<" I feel like this is just a red herring, but what if it isn't?

If it isn't: Something related to clotheslining (revival of the overpass?), or soccer-ball-type-objects (though when you think about that one, it would seem that they're limiting our robot ideas already, with emphasis on the top of the robot)

Thanks GDC, now my mind is going to be pondering the possibilities until December of it's own volition

Re: New game clue from Bill's Blog

I need help accurately measuring Dav'e head this weekend.

I predict that the clue refers to Dave allowing for a mold of his head for next years game piece.

Game will be called "Head's Up", and FIRST people will call it "Dave Ball". The game will be a wierd version of volley ball where teams start with balls in lots of various containers on their 1/2 of the field and have to fire balls over or under a net (two horizonatl bars with polycard between them 2 foot high to 5 feet high) that cross the field. Note unlike volleball, it will be OK to go under the net. Lowest amount of balls on your side at the end of the game wins.

Now to find some calipers before heading off to the IRI.

An improvement might see the goal to be firing balls only between the bars...bonus points will be based on stacking the now-empty ball containers...you can break a stack by firing the balls at it.

That sounds a lot like Clean Sweep. Minus the freaky game pieces though.

Re: New game clue from Bill's Blog

You know I'd be a lot less inclined to believe that this was actually a hint if the blog entry wasn't titled "using your head". I'm starting to see how the GDC earned its reputation.

I'm surprised that no one has made any guesstimates regarding the comments about FedEx. What does everyone think of a game involving robots retrieving and balancing boxes on top of the robot (which Dave was obviously trying for himself recently

In short, I don't have a clue. I think I'll just wait until December to twist my brain over this...or at least try and fail miserably in the attempt ^_-

I've said this before, but the entire GDC is pure evil. (Exceptions are pure evil geniuses--which happens to be about 3 of them.)

Also note that we had a box game in 2003, and trying to build the stacks was a nightmare--all it took was one good clip and the stack fell down. Some teams (217 comes to mind) protected the stacks while building them, but once released, they were easy targets.

Question New game clue from Bill's Blog

Even tho it's never going to happen I'm tempted to say, IT'S A DOLPHIN IN A WATER GAME!!! but thats way off the mark. All tho some part of Bill's blog has to be a hint because isn't it a bit overdue by now? Maybe the game has to do with stopping robots from delivering a package and thats why their no official hint that leads us to thinking it's a water game.

HELMETS!

Dave used his head to test a game piece, but later says "Ouch." So therefore, either the game object must be hard or Dave didn't have protection. Try hitting a helmet with your head...

Oh, now that wouldn't be any fun! Can you imagine how boring winter break and kickoff would be if we already knew what the game was? Kick-off wouldn't be nearly as exciting (and quite frankly that's half my winter break ). Getting Dave's little clues is more enjoyable anyway!
