Team Jackets for RAGE

There seems to be a bit of confusion over the Championship jackets for team 173. As the tem leader I will try to clear it up .The East Hartford BOE as a matter of past practice has boughth team jackets for ALL sports teams that won a state championship. The superintendent felt that it was only appropriate to do the same for an academic team that won the nationals. The other two BOE (Rockville & Coventry) concurred as they also have bought team jackets for SPORTS teams. As the team leader, and a teacher I though this was a commendable gesture showing that the BOE values FIRST Robotics in the same vein as they value their respective sports teams. Dean Kamen has always portrayed SPORTS as receiving an inordinate amount of attention and here is an example of an academic team getting the same consideration. So if there are issues out there re: the RAGE team 173 Jackets. Guesss what - The TEAM DID NOT GET some one to buy the jackets!!! It was a gesture of equality from the Board of Education showing that FIRST Robotics is JUST as worthy as a football team or a baseball team etc. About time!!!

Championship jackets

I am not really into individual awards for team members, but Team awards are great. In 1995, we won the New England Regional. A parent went out, had special shirts printed up and had them ready for the first National Comp. in Florida.

The parent had great intentions and the shirts were graciously accepted and worn. (In fact, I just wore mine again last week)

Rage's jackets are sharp, they won an event that any of us would love to win and in this case, they are not being egotistic!!

I think the idea for the jackets was awesome!!! I remember last year at UTC when the teams won, they all got together and made custom t-shirts for thier teams with logo's for all the teams. Remember there were 5 last year in the winning alliance, lots of colors on the shirts, that must have cost a pretty penny!! But, If you've got it flaunt it!!! Hopefully you wear your jackets not only to competitions but anywhere you go and hopefully you get asked what FIRST is and then explain it to the askers!!!

More good publicity for FIRST is always a great thing!!!
