Go to Post I would be kinda creeped out if I was one of the "famous" FIRST people. Why? Because no one is any different than anyone else in my eyes. Granted, some people stand out more, but that is because the other people might not have gotten a chance yet to shine. - Melissa Nute [more]

Girls in Gear STEM Education Program

Attention Robotics Event Organizers and Team Mentors!

In response to requests from the FIRST community, our team has assembled a kit of materials based on our successful Girls in Gear program. Girls in Gear is an informal STEM education program designed just for Girl Scouts. This kit will help groups to conduct this program in conjunction with local robotics events.

For more background, you can read this article published by FIRST -> http://www.usfirst.org/who/content.aspx?id=11886

A white paper on how to get started with Girls in Gear has been uploaded here ---->

We encourage everyone interested in conducting STEM programs for girls to read this whitepaper. If you have further questions please contact us at Girls.in.Gear@gmail.com

Great Post!

How many FIRST teams are based around girl scout troops ?

I know Texas has the Lady Cans (#2881)
Check out the article about the team,

Re: Girls in Gear STEM Education Program

Thanks for the reply. Looks like a great team.

While Team 341 has a number of Girl Scouts on our team, we are actually a co-ed team. The Girls in Gear program was developed by a team member that is a Girl Scout with the help of an assistant troop leader. So they knew how to tailor it to Girls Scout needs. And since our team is almost half female they had plenty of design input. It ran last year at our off-season event, Ramp Riot 2008.
If the Lady Cans have an event they would like to pilot, we would be glad to help. All of our materials are designed so that the handouts do not have our team logos. Only the Girls in Gear logo appears on the materials. We want each organization to be able to personalize the handouts with thier team information and for thier specific region.

Best of luck this season!

Re: Girls in Gear STEM Education Program

The Space Cookies (1868) are another Girl Scout FRC team from Silicon Valley. There's also the Techno Chix (Westchester, NY) and the Rock 'n' Roll Robots (Los Angeles) in FTC, and more Girl Scout FLL teams than I can keep track of.

I know that the Rock 'n' Roll Robots will find this information VERY helpful in the near future. Thank you!
