In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
"It is with profound sadness that I share this news with you: Glenn Wright, a former member and mentor of team 1880 the East Harlem Warriors lost his life this past weekend. Kris Breton, who know Glenn well shared the details below . These articles appeared today in various Media about the unfortunate and senseless incident leading to his untimely and tragic death: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/15/ny.../15wright.html. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_c..._on_les_c.html
Glenn was 21 years old. A kind, well-liked, responsible young man, raised in a family of very limited economic means, Glenn was a loving child and brother and a caring team member who bloomed in the midst of EHTP friends and mentors. Glenn graduated in 2008, but never left his FIRST team: he helped as mentor in 2009, and was to be one of its main leaders in 2010. He will be sorely missed. I am sure his positive and sharing spirit will continue inspiring Team 1880 for years to come. Our thoughts and prayers go to his father, siblings and close friends. East Harlem Tutorial Program is recieving donations to help the family with the funeral services. Donations or flowers and cards can be sent to EHTP/ in Glenn Wright 's memory, and mailed c/o Gerardo Garcia, Robotics Coordinator 2050 Second Ave, NY NY 10029. Team 1880 will be holding a Vigil at East Harlem Tutorial this afternoon at 5:30, at 2050 Second Avenue near 106th St. Feel free to join us to remember and celebrate his life. His funeral will be held on Saturday at Benta's Funeral Home at 630 St. Nicholas Avenue - at W. 141st Street Harlem, New York . Glenn's funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 AM. Donations to help with the funeral cost can be made out to : Benta's Funeral Home Incorporated. and mailed to : Carlos Velazquez Associate Director of Programs, High School East Harlem Tutorial Program 2050 Second Avenue New York, NY 10029 Tel : (212) 831 - 0650 Any funding beyond the cost of services will be given to Glenn's family." Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
I read the articles and I cringed when I read the story and what happened.
Then I sat down and thought, that what if those 3 men had somehow, in someway been involved in an activity that they loved/cherished, like Glenn was involved with FIRST, and that they were passionate about...would they have murdered such an innocent person? It seems that Glenn Wright was a beautiful being, I'm sorry that I never knew him, and I'm sorry that now, I never will. We should look to Glenn who, even before this tragic accident, was busy helping people to make the world a little better in his own little way. The thoughts and prayers of team 1261 are with Glenn's friends and family, and in the hopes that his achievements will not soon be forgotten. |

Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
Kris Breton is a Bomb Squad alum. Our teams got together for a pizza party in Atlanta in, I guess it was 2006, and I am sure Glenn was there. They were so excited and such a joy to be around. This is just unbearably awful.
Kris, we are so proud of you and please know you and Glenn's family will get prayers from home. |

Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
There is no reason that we can see that gives us solace when things like this happen. Tragedy comes with no warning. I hope and pray that the team members can gather round and build themselves up to be stronger. It would be an honorarium to Glen and the team. I also pray that those that knew Glen and what his desires and goals were will be touched and encouraged by his life.

Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
I honestly started crying when I read the article*.
Stabbing is just such a tragic way to go, especially for someone as young as Glenn. I would be absolutely devastated if this happened to any of my teammates, family, or alumni. I can't even begin to think about the effects of the death to everyone who had made a place for Glenn in their heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, team, and everyone who had had the chance to meet such a phenomenal individual. *Not to go off-topic...but kudos to the journalist. They did a very good job of touching the readers' hearts, which takes a lot of skill to do. |

Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
I will admit I started reading it expecting it to be a car accident or something when I clicked it. My stomach just sank and I started to feel a lot of grief as soon as I started reading it despite it being about someone I had never previously heard of. I don't blame caribou, I probably was pretty close too.
My deepest condolences to your team, his family and your community; it's a terrible way for someone as talented and with as large of aspirations as him to leave us. Last edited by Trent B : 17-09-2009 at 07:54. |

Re: In memory of Glenn Wright of NYC Team 1880...
The world is full of senseless violence. Not just senseless in that it holds no reason, but also that it clouds every sense an individual possesses.
From what I've read above, Glenn was an exceptional person. If anyone, he as a member of FIRST knew the value of progressing altogether rather than competing to be on top. From this naive competitiveness stems hatred, from which violence originates. My deepest sympathies go to Glenn's family, friends, and colleagues. And here's to working towards a peace and unity between everyone, within our lifetimes, keeping Glenn and all others in our hearts and memories. |
