The RS550 motor has nearly identical specs as the FP9015 Motor. Pull the pinion off and it will fit anywhere you put an RS550. The mounting holes are the same. You can get these FP motors from AndyMark for $13.

I will contact the people from your first link to find out the speed, torque and current specs on that motor. Maybe it'll work maybe not. The one on ebay is still too slow for what I need. Thanks for taking the time to do some research though.

I have thought of the FP motors all along but they will make my mechanism much slower. While the stall torque is close between RS-550 and FP, the free rpm is 15600 for the FP and 19300 for the RS-550. After they go on the 256:1 planetary the output difference is rather large. However this is still my back up plan but I hope I can find the RS-550s.


My hope is that some teams out there never used their 2008 RS-550s and are will to sell/trade/give to me. So if your reading this and you think you have some please contact me.

It sounds like you are looking for a motor/gearbox combination that gives you ~75RPM theoretical free speed @ ~127 N*m theoretical torque (these are the numbers of an RS-550 reduced by 256).

A CIM at 64:1 gives you more speed (~83 RPM before losses) with more torque (~155 N*m stall). BaneBots sells a 64:1 CIM gearbox: http://banebots.com/pc/P80K-nnnn-0005/P80K-444-0005

Of course, this is a more expensive (and much larger) option, but it would give you the specs you desire.

Unfortunately I have many other constrains that keep me from using CIM motors. Weight, size, current draw, and power are all critical for what I am doing. The CIM motor draws too many AMPs for my application and would not fit either.

At this point it is too late for me to make drastic changes to the design. So please, if your reading this message find out if your tean has any RS-550 motors you can help me out with. I would greatly appreciate it and would be very thankful.
