Go to Post Dean's said it before, and it's been repeated many times, but it clearly hasn't sunk in yet, so I'll say really loudly. FIRST is not a science fair! - Karthik [more]

Re: RIVER RAGE 13 - VENUE CHANGE

It was great to visit with friends at River Rage today. There were many interesting things to see and talk about today. I believe a few teams were running their robots on JAVA tests. The 2010 Driver's Station netbooks made a few test runs in the Mentor matches during the lunch break. It was also a chance to look at the prototype Delta playing field mentioned in Bill's Blog this week.

I didn't get a chance to talk to the teams running JAVA, but since the robots were always running I expect there weren't any major issues. Hopefully, someone can give us some feedback.

The DS netbooks got a shake down test too. They seemed to run without any major problems. Again any mentors wish to comment on their test match experience.

I was pretty inspired by the Delta field. It would be easy for any team to build a DS and/or HP area so their driver team could practice within a realistic environment. The only issues I heard from the field crew was the load in/out gate sticking and having pinch points, and a comment that someone thought a few 3/16" pop rivets might have failed from robot impacts. I couldn't confirm that, but the field did have a few impressive robot impacts and it seemed to weather the storm.

My pictures should be up soon.

Congrats to all the teams and volunteers on a great event. Awesome costumes, and a lot of fun.
