Could use some help...

Ok, I know there isn't a direct Thread location where I can post this problem on here but I figured I'll post what I need to ask in this General Forum...

Ok, I have a '00 Blazer. I recently purchased a new factory '09 Radio thats found in most '09 GM Vehicles. The '09 vehicle it "came from" was a Cobalt.

So here's what I need:
1) Wiring Diagram for the '09 Radio from a Chevy Cobalt. In specific the Ignition Circuit on the radio side. I know where it is on my '00 Blazer but can't find it on the radio.
2) An Antenna Adapter going from the '09 Factory Radio to the '00 Blazer currently installed Antenna. While I don't think one "exsists" I'm praying one does. If I'm not mistaken the one on the '09 Radio appears to be a Coax type deal. I'm assuming both ends of what I'm looking for needs to be Female.

So any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated... (don't ask why I'm trying to use a new Factory Radio in an old SUV =P ).

Thank You CD =D and good luck to all in '10

Re: Could use some help...

This isn't really the place for this question. Your best bet is to try www.cobaltss.net

The guys on there are really helpfull, and I bet they could provide the information you need. And since Im a member, Ill take a look and see if I can find the diagrams for you.

EDIT:

Heres the pinout for the radio http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2823
If your looking for a "remote" wire for the radio, you can use any wire that has power only when the key is in, just use a circut tester to find one.

As for the antenna, Im 98% sure there isn't an adapter for your application

Hope this helps!

Re: Could use some help...

from the link: "the radio DOES communicate on the Lowspeed GM-LAN line, it recieves VIN information for TheftLok, illumination dimming inputs, and signal for speed compensated volume."

interesting...have fun!

Exactly, forgot to include that little bit...the electronics in new GM vehicles are run via the BCM (body control module)...Which I doubt your '00 Blazer has, and even if it did, I doubt it would communicate properly with the cobalt radio. Also, if you do get it to work, your going to need the code to unlock the radio...Good luck with this little project.

There most likely isn't one. The recent GM radio I'm working with right now only has a single power pin, connected to the battery (through a fuse, of course). It finds out whether the ignition is on by listening to messages on a serial data bus.

I miss the days of real switches....my wife's new truck takes a moment to think after turning the key, before it will engage the starter.

Re: Could use some help...

Yea, I know this isn't the place for Auto Questions =)... But I figured FIRST has got alot of young drivers just like me who like to take things apart in their own car to try and alter the way it originally came =P.

Ok, so the wiring diagram that you pointed me to and the one I have are the same so I guess unless I decide to keep going looks like I'll hang up the towel on this lol.

As for the Antenna, I would probably have to go out and buy the whole antenna to radio harness and antenna itself.

As for programming and TheftLok. I work part time in a mechanic shop so to get the theftlok code isn't a problem so I would just need to drop by the dealer and get them to program the radio.

I do Thank all of you guys for all of your help thus far. Knowing and accepting what my next step is will have alot to do with keep going or just get the Pioneer P5100UB =P. Since I know the aftermarket radios go in 1-2-3 =P. Just got to find a dash kit =P.

Or build your own. It's not much different from building robots.

I think I swapped a mid 60s Oldsmobile radio into my 59 chevy truck when I was 16....wiring was so simple back then, the yellow wire went to switched power, that was about it.

We'll see what happens. Right now I'm sick as a dog and can't do anything... so either way my hands are tied.
