Re: ProE on Windows7

Hi. PTC will not officially support Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 Schools Edition on Windows 7. We are currently working on Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 Schools Edition that will support Windows 7, but unfortunately it will not be available until March 2010.

Thank you so much. I'll try doing the models in either AutoCAD or SolidWorks and then export.

Re: ProE on Windows7

Hi Skot,
any reason that it's not yet available in the Windchill software download yet?

When I try installing pro-engineer on my Windows 7 64 bit machine it freezes up at 2% of the installation process. Any help would be appreciated.

It's a problem with their "online" installer. It's outright broken, and doesn't work. No fault of yours. You need to use the full DVD installation package.

Re: ProE on Windows7

Once you do get it installed though, it does run and is fully supported on Windows 7 x86-64 (Wildfire 5.0 / CreoElements/Pro 5.0 are at least). I've been running it under 7 Pro 64-bit and have had less crashes than I get under Windows XP.

I got the online installer to work on 1 of 3 windows 7 64 bit computers i have but it took 5-10 tries and you needed to do 3 installs with different options in a specific order which i cant remember to get it to work right. I literally got it to work once by blind luck. Now every time i try i get it through the installation but then it cant find Pro-E.exe

You really do need to download the full installer, it will fix all your issues.

Re: ProE on Windows7

Any specific problems you are having with it? I have not had any issues running the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 5.0 (M040) Schools Edition on my Win7-64bit machines.

Yep, the full installer is right there on your Windchill project page. Go to Home --> Utilities --> Software Downloads --> and download the CreoElements/Pro 5.0 full DVD (rebranded Pro/E Wildfire 5.0)
