Talking ANSI, Parker, and other Libs for Inventor 2010

Autodesk gave me access to those libraries.

They are located at: http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=inv...tent_libraries

The ANSI library is big, ~454KB
Parker Library
Routet systems Library
Sheetmetal Library

as well as
DIN Library
GOST
and some others

Hope this gets the Inventor crowd back up to speed.

If there isn't, you can always install the provided copy of inventor, and export the files as .steps. Not an immediate process, but not a long one either.

I don't know that it contains all the parts that the Inventor library does, but the SolidWorks library that I know of is at http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/default.aspx

Team 1323 also has a CAD Library with .steps, .iges, inventor, and solidworks format. The library has about 250 parts.

The Inventor Libraries are for auto-generated solids for standard parts, e.g. bolts, nuts, and rivets that have ANSI standards. e.g. 1/4-20 shcs bolt.

These libraries do not contain a library of FIRST parts. For that, the usual address is www.firstcadlibrary.com

Re: ANSI, Parker, and other Libs for Inventor 2010

For "Windows 7" users the proper place for the libraries are hard to locate. The search feature in "Windows 7" will not show hidden files. The first thing that needs to be done is to make the hidden files visible (Programdata is a hidden folder). The libraries (.idcl) need to be installed to
OS (C: )\Programdata\Autodesk\Inventor2010\Content Center\Libraries

I hope that this makes sense to everybody using "Windows 7". It took me about an hour to figure out where to put the libraries since Autodesk's instructions didn't work for "Windows 7".

Thanks for the last post on "Where to put the Library files". That's essential info for the Library to work.

Re: ANSI, Parker, and other Libs for Inventor 2010

For the solidworks questions I am pretty sure if you have Solidworks Student Edition (The one you get 5 copies of) not the Student Design Kit (unlimited installs for your team) you get the "Toolbox" which does a similar thing to the inventor kit.

Also, McMaster has a fair number of CAD drawings.

Go to part number 90128A932

Look at the left side (may have to click part number again)
3d Model towards the bottom of the list of options
Download at the grey bar near the top of the page
Pick Format

The CADs dont exist for everything but there are a lot of them

Re: ANSI, Parker, and other Libs for Inventor 2010

For SolidWorks Student Edition, the 5 copies you receive with Sponsorship,

Go to Tools, Add-Ins. Check SolidWorks Toolbox and Check SolidWorks Toolbox Browser for ANSI fasteners. They will be displayed in the right hand side.

For Andy Mark, SMC and other components, go to
www.3DContentCentral.com.

For SolidWorks sponsorship, go to www.SolidWorks.com/SponsoredDesignContest

Re: ANSI, Parker, and other Libs for Inventor 2010

All,

My name is Phil Dollan. I am the person that created the learing materials and the Kit of Parts for Autodesk Inventor. To address some of the questions in this thread:

1. If you are not already on the FIRST student community I encourage you to join at www.autodesk.com/first.
2. Once you access the community you will be able to download tutorials I have created specifically for FRC. These include four audio/visual presentations on creating a project file, part files, drawings and an assembly.
3. The FIRST KOP includes all the 2010 parts for your robot.

Enjoy all this great material!

Any problems, contact me at phil.dollan@autodesk.com.

Phil
