you should be seeing update notifications when you start NetBeans. You can set the "Check Interval" to be every time NetBeans starts to get more timely notification.

On a side note, Brad, would you recommend hooking the Classmate to the internet ever? So far I haven't hooked ours up, for fear of junking it up, and so far have only moved files and updates over via USB. I'm considering removing AVG altogether and never connecting it to the web.
