New router setup not working

Our router from last year isn't working so we bought a new one for this year. We bought a wrt160n. When we put the cd and set it up it's asking us too hook it up to an internet but it is still not connecting. Do we have to set it up this way or is there another way. How do we change our ip for it and what else do we need to change?
Thank you

Re: New router setup not working

I would reset the router to default.

Plug in your computer and let it get an ip

go into command prompt and type in ipconfig

look at the gateway field, it should be something lie 192.168.*.*

type in whatever your number is into firefox or IE and you will get to the router page

you will need the default password, it should be in the manual

This will allow you to make whatever changed you need to make.

Question Re: New router setup not working

You have to remember that last season you had to take your receiver to be encrypted. Unless you have the sheet that they gave you do decrypt the receiver then you would be easy off just doing a master reset on the unit. To the best of my knowledge all linksys devices do a master reset after 30 seconds of holding the reset button while powered on.

Hope it works for you.
