FTC ir beacon

we just got it and stuck a battery in it and flipped on the switch. but i cant tell if it works properly or not. the only thing that happens is the green light turns on. we didnt get the ir sensor yet but i assume its coming eventually. so until then can anyone tell me how its supposed to work.

The IR will probably show up if you look at it through a digital camera.
Digital camera sensors have a wider spectrum than the human eye and they usually convert that to visible light in the picture and on the camera's LCD.

Cellphone cameras will serve this purpose fine.
