Mabuchi Motor Supplier

Where can teams buy extra mabuchi motors? I found some RS555's on banebots but they dont publish the specific motor type. I know the KoP supplies RS555SH-2670 and RS555VC-3754, do we need these specific ones or can will any RS555s do? The link to the banebots ones is http://banebots.com/pc/MOTOR-BRUSH/M5-RS555-12. Thanks!

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

in the past they have been very specific about which motors to use. RS555 is more of a physical standard than a performance standard, so using a different part number motor that begins with RS555 could give you an advantage over another team, and is likely to be prohibited.

Of course you should ask on the Q&A to confirm this.

I have not seen any other source for the motors....is there one listed in the "where to get more" listing in section 10?

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

After reading, it seems to me that more mabuchi motors are not available for order.

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

Are these Mabuchi motors the same as last year?
I can look them up but I just wondered if anyone knew out of hand...

thanks

By the way... did anyone notice the real reduction in motors this year.??

One extra CIM but the window motors are not really very usefull
and we lost the Globe motors...
And no way to purchase spares of the Mabuchi motors...

I only mention this because I was astonished when I opened up the kit this year as a veteran and saw such a small amount of useful stuff... compared to years past...

There really should be an option to use an extra FP too.... or 2 more FP's

Perhaps we are heading towards a kit that only includes CIM motors and FP motors....

Different numbers, and not available anywhere I've looked (ie google doesn't find them avaiable from any vendor)

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

GDC confirmed my question today about whether or not we can use QTY 2 of the RS555 family of parts and not just the two exact part numbers in the KOP. They said we can use only those PNs (big surprise).

Banebots confirmed that the PN they have of the 555 is neither of those in the KOP.

Basically we are stuck again unless someone can find another source.

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

We decided against using those motors early on....for this reason.

If you cold get some spares from other teams, then it would be reasonable to use them

I've never had any problems getting enough spared from bartering with other teams for KOP bits that I wasn't using (finding a team that wasn't using the bit I was). Sometimes cash was kicked in by one or other side of the bargain.

Trust me, by the ship date, there will be a lot of horse trading going on around ChiefDelphi.com and elsewhere.

Bottom line: I wouldn't let lack of spares be the deciding factor in designing my robot -- especially the Mabuchi motors because I think a lot of teams will not use them (now if you want to say, 12W is not enough to do what I want to do in the time I want to do it, that is another story...)

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

The 12w thing was another factor in the decision...but like Joe implies, a lot of other teams won't be using them because of that, making the spares situation easier to deal with.

Re: Mabuchi Motor Supplier

They've done this many times in the past. The globe motors, the window motors, van door motors, etc often did not have replacement sources.

Fortunately this is FIRST and you'll get a lot of help from other teams
