So, the testing says plug joystick into port 1 on the USB hub...which one is port one and does it really matter?
Thanks |

Not particularly. Just check in the "Diagnostics" tab of the driver station that it is detected and is usable. You can do that by pressing a few buttons and see if the name of it lights up or something.

You can always change the port number in the code. Not to mention you can click and drag joysticks into a virtual port on the diagnostics panel.

Re: Does it matter which port is 1 on usb hub?
Is does not matter.
The Driverstation assigns joysticks not by where they are plugged in, but by the USB hardware ID. This is an ID similar to a mac address for a network card - it's internal to the joystick and unchangeable by you. Thus, once you plug in all your joysticks, reassign their numbers in the setup tab to get them working the way you want them to. Then use a sharpie or something else to label the joysticks so you know which one is which - because they'll stay that way from now on when you plug them in (as long as the driverstation stays configured). |
