Re: The Official Metalheads Thread
Behemoth cancelled due to being stuck in North Dakota. Stupid Snow.
Anyways, gonna go see Slayer/Megadeth/Testament in a week or so. Should be an awesome show. I saw High on Fire play with Converge, Mastodon, and Dethklok back this fall. That was an awesome show. I definitely need to listen to more High on Fire. To whoever mentioned Scale the Summit: Yes, they're more progressive than metal. I saw them with Dream Theater back in August, and they were incredibly impressive (all bands there were. Dweezil Zappa was by far the greatest performance there, even though I came for Dream Theater). Also, if anybody wants to extend doom into drone, I'm currently writing a music paper involving the band Sunn 0))). If you have the patience, they really are fantastic to listen to. Although maybe not technically metal, does anybody listen to straight up grindcore? Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer, etc? Last edited by machetemonkey : 30-01-2010 at 12:41. |

Sunn 0))) is good, but I extend my atmosphere out to the likes of Isis, Cult of Luna, Rosetta and Nuerosis.
Listening to more High on Fire is always a good idea. |

On a more classic-rock-proto-metal note, I maintain that the intro riff to Godzilla by Blue Oyster cult is one of the heaviest riffs ever. And that takes into account all the extreme metal I listen to. |

Re: The Official Metalheads Thread
If you want riffage, listen to the Sword, that's all they do, and they do it well.
High on Fire, having mentioned them, do some great riffing. Electric Wizard still dominates the riff department with Dopethrone though. |

In general I'm a big fan of classic metal riffs. Listen to the Bass intro of Space Truckin' by Deep Purple, or Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath. As I said, I love pretty much all types of metal, from that which can barely be called more than hard rock to this (http://www.myspace.com/terrorhorse). Re: The Official Metalheads Thread
I was pretty certain most Slayer concerts in the next few weeks were cancelled due to a band member needing back surgery.

Oh that sucks. Two concerts in two weeks cancelled? I was so excited.

Re: The Official Metalheads Thread
I lost major interest in the Behemoth tour when Shining dropped off due to visa complications. Lightning Swords of Death replaced them, and while I like LSoD a lot, they aren't nearly as awesome as Shining. I ended up skipping it to see Oiltanker and Infernal Stronghold instead.

Most Behemoth bores me to tears, especially recently. I'm not usually a fan of black and blackened metal when it's highly polished. Blackened death is usually not my thing (with the exception of a few bands like Unanimated and Goatwhore), and Behemoth is the opposite of how I like mine. Unrelated, you guys should tune in to my radio show tonight. Seeing as none of you seem to be within normal listening range, you can do it over the internet at WKDU.org. I'm normally on 7-9PM (Eastern) on Mondays, but I'm also covering the show after mine so I'll be going all the way until 11PM tonight. The DJ before me also plays metal, so you might as well tune in at 5PM for 6 hours of blistering, audible hate. |

I'm doing a variety show that includes a decent amount of metal later this semester though, so "stay tuned"!I passed up a Between the Buried and Me concert the other day and now regret it. While not very metal, there's a Coheed and Cambria concert on campus in a month I'm extremely excited for, which I don't plan on missing. |

Re: The Official Metalheads Thread
I skipped the BTBAM/Cynic/Devin Townsend/Scale the Summit show last night in Philly. And by skipped, I mean, forgot about. I'm not terribly upset because BTBAM is awful, Devin is a much better producer than he is a musician, and I'm entirely indifferent about Scale the Summit. Would really have liked to see Cynic, though. They need to stop touring with awful bands (Dragonforce, BTBAM, etc.).

Cynic's performance was incredible.
For lack of a better term, the vibes they gave off were mesmerizing, and left me staring in awe several times throughout their set. |
