Re: Success with CAN

Team 41 got their CAN working within the first week and a half (if my memory serves me correctly). We managed to get it moving, but only on kPercentVoltage, we tried writing our own kCurrent, but never tested it fully. We put the current control aside to try getting the speed to work with encoders, currently not working though.

We did brick one jaguar today so I am looking into using a JTAG to unbrick it.
**Note I have a high suspicion you may have to set the address before updating the firmware. Even if it responds on 1, change it.** We flashed about 10 jaguars, with the 86 firmware, and then again when 87 came out.

I voted yes but with problems.

Re: Success with CAN

Got all of ours flashed (12 gray, 4 black). Main problem we had was the serial to black jag cable wasn't right..... like 3 times...... Only had one problem other than that. I forgot to push the user button on one of the gray ones and it somehow set the ID to 0. So when it was on a connected CAN bus it would constantly blink yellow fast. Figured out a weird workaround but its now fixed. (Did it with just the black jag and the bdc-comm software)

Tried to run the example CAN code earlier but it didn't work. Then I remembered I was missing the "FRC_BlackJagBridgePlugin.out" on the RIO. Gonna put it on in tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

Could you have updated with the wrong firmware? If so here might help.

Re: Success with CAN

I appreciate the thought David, but we only have grey jaguars, and all the rest flashed fine with the firmware I used. I went back and double checked and I only downloaded the gray firmware, not the black.

I looked into using the bdc-comm utility, but it appeared that it could only be used if the black jaguar is the entry point into the CAN bus. We are using the 2can adapter.

EDIT: Is it possible to make a custom cable that on 1 end plugs into the serial port on a computer, and the other end plugs into the CAN on the corrupt jaguar? Also does anyone have experience with the JTAG and jaguar?

Re: Success with CAN

I actually have reflashed gray jaguars with the CAN bootloader. I used the RDK-BDC CAN eval board from luminary micro.

http://www.luminarymicro.com/product...ation_kit.html

I think I bought mine on digikey ($219 but it came with a jag).

However make sure that you've actually bricked it. When the bootloader doesn't recognize a valid app (bad checksum or maybe black jag firmware in gray jag) the firmware stays in bootloader ready to flash another app. The problem is that when its in this state the firmware does nothing with the led so it looks like its bricked. you've probably done this already but try flashing different firmware into the problem jag, also you may want to separate it from the other jags so its the only one on the CAN bus.

Re: Success with CAN

Thanks Omar.

I tried tinkering with it today, but nothing helped. We are actually purchasing 2 black jaguars, so when they arrive I'll use the version 88 comm utility and reflash them with that recover jaguar option.

Hopefully that works, if not we are going to purchase http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=726-1051-ND . Can you confirm if this is the correct item?

Many Thanks

Re: Success with CAN

This is the package I bought....

http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...CTL+ &x=0&y=0

Im not sure if the LM3S2965 eval board (your board) comes with firmware that reflashes Jags or if that firmware has been ported from that dev board.

Be sure to read the RDK-BDC User's Manual before you do anything...

http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/spmu022a/spmu022a.pdf

It explains how to reflash firmware.

Also there are a couple of possible gotchas.

1) The JTAG/SWD Connector on the Jag is a mini 2X5 pin connector that requires a small pcb converter that goes from that to a traditional JTAG connector (this is also explained in the user manual).

2) I've noticed that some Jags ship WITHOUT the 2 X 5 pin connector and the vias where the pins go are wave soldered over so you may have to purchase the pin connectors yourself and solder them on. Peel the sticker at the bottom of the Jag and you will find a hole where the pins should be (I just remembered that I had to do this on a particular jag). I found the part no for the pins in the rdk-bdc CD for the Jaguar, which is also on LM's website. If you can't find it and can dig it up.
