cRio connection and license problems (windriver)

sorry if this should be going in the programming > windriver category, but when I try connecting to the cRio I get an error that claims that I don't have a good enough license for it. I've connected to it before and this error just started happening out of nowhere. It's happened before and that time I reinstalled windriver, but a week later the problem came back and now here I am.

Here's the target server log:

I've tried re-imaging the cRio (yes, i do click the format controller button) but I still get this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: cRio connection and license problems (windriver)

Did you install Workbench onto a USB drive instead of your primary hard disk?
Do you have other Wind River Workbench installations -- either on your primary hard drive or on some USB disk?

Re: cRio connection and license problems (windriver)

no I did not install wind river on a usb drive, however I do have an installation of it on another partition.

The funny thing is, the problem just went away (except more in an excited sort of way). If this problem goes away on it's own, that's a lot less disruptive, but if there's a solution to this problem (in case it arises again) I'd love to find out

Thanks again for helping

It looks to me that the licenses we get installed are HOSTID=ANY, which usually means that all the tools the license file allows are permitted on any host.
But your error paste shows something different -- complaining about the host id.
Maybe you could try, while things are working, execute from a command window c:\windriver\workbench-3.0\x86-win32\bin\hostid.exe.
Write down and save the output.
Then if things stop working again and you get that same error, do it again and see if the output of hostid.exe is different.
If it is, post both here. If it's not, I'm at a loss.
With HOSTID=ANY in the license file, hostid is not supposed to matter AFAIK.
But, for obvious reasons I think, software vendors don't really want us to understand this stuff too well.

Sorry, I was typing my other reply while you posted this.
Are you pasting these errors in or typing them?
If you're pasting, then you need to run chkdsk on your primary disk.
If you're typing, please paste instead.

Is that you fat-fingering or is that really what came up?

Edit: I'm going to assume that's fat-fingering
Some more information that might help you figure this out on your own (because I'm going to bed soon)
On Windows machines, host ID is usually either the serial number of your primary disk or it's the MAC address of one of your ethernet interfaces.
Now it may well be (not a Flex expert) that these are used to derive a host id rather than being used directly.
The point being that it's safe to assume that if you:
1) have physical disks changing drive letters (USB disks)
2) have ethernet interfaces that can be removed (Cardbus or PCMCIA)
3) have network interface(s) that are disabled (can't read MAC from a disabled ethernet adapter)
4) maybe even inserting and/or removing USB sticks
any of these could cause you to have licensing problems.

I have one laptop that shuts down the wired ethernet interface when it's running on battery.
And guess what?
I cannot run some Flex licensed products when the machine is running on battery!
