Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

Our team has 6" mechanum wheels from Andy Mark. However, some of the rollers that are on the wheels are kind of stuck and won't roll very easily. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, are there any quick fixes for it, or does it even make that much of a difference, considering how heavy the robot will be?

Re: Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

Loosen the screws on those rollers that are stuck.

Re: Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

The more freely the rollers turn, the more consistent your robot will maneuver. We used AndyMark 6" mecanum wheels in 2008 and had no issues with them. We had a spare set as well so no notable problem with 8 wheels.

Since we did not have issues, I'm not sure how much help I can provide. My suggestion is to try loosening the nut/screw on either side of the offending rollers. They may be just a bit tight. If you continue to have problems you may try asking AndyMark directly. They are usually very friendly and helpful.

Re: Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

In '08 we got those wheels. Brought them to the practice field, and within 5 minutes they were bent and a bunch of the rollers were locked. We took the long road: machine new ones out of a block of aluminum As for your wheels, make sure the plates aren't squeezing the rollers.

Re: Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

I haven't ever used the 6" ones, but I've had the same issue with the 8" ones. First of all, it does make a significant difference, especially if all the rollers on one wheel are tight, while the other wheels are loose. To fix this, simply loosen up the bolts on the wheels. It will seem like they are too loose, and that the wheel will fall apart, but it actually works quite well.

Re: Mechanum Wheel Rollers Stuck

We had this problem with some pre-season project wheels. All you need to do is loosen the bolts on the tight rollers.
