Jaguar to Motor

Do we have to have a seperate jaguar for every motor? We plan on using two twin motors for each wheel. Each set of twin motors are attached to one gearbox.

Re: Jaguar to Motor

You may only power one motor off of one speed controller. (Jaguar)

However, if you want to power two motors off the same signal, you could use a Y-Cable from the DSC, if you are using PWM control.

Re: Jaguar to Motor

<R49> Each power-regulating device (speed controller or relay module) shall control one and only one electrical load (motor, actuator or compressor).
A. Exception: Multiple low-load, pneumatic solenoid valves may be connected to a single relay module. This would allow one relay module to drive multiple pneumatic actions. No other electrical load can be connected to a relay module used in this manner.

Re: Jaguar to Motor

So, on this Y cable idea. I tried this past weekend to run 2 Jag's from one pwm output and anytime I plugged in the second Jag, neither would work.

I ended up being able to only run 1 motor for the test because of it.

Are we sure the 1pwm to 2 Jags via a Y cable is supposed to work?

Thanks
Mike

1 PWM port can provide signal for any one of the following combinations:
  • 1 Servo
  • 1 or 2 Victors
  • 1 or 2 Jaguars

You can not have one PWM port provide signal for a Jaguar and a Victor. The Victor draws much more signal current than the Jaguar and essentially starves it.

I made sure that a single PWM port can provide more than enough signal current for two Jaguars always. In fact, the circuit is beefy enough for three (or four >80% of the time) Jags.

Can I ask which PWM port(s) you were using? Are you sure you didn't have one of the PWM cables upside down?

Also are the motors supposed to turn the same way, are they wired the same (red and black to the same connections on both Jaguars and at the power distribution board), etc.? Make sure they are not trying to turn different directions! that would make it not work at all.

Re: Jaguar to Motor

This was a case of driving 2 motors in a tough box. Yes, the wiring was the same.
The thing I didn't think to mention was that I was driving them with a radio control (think model car) receiver just so we could test the motors and see how much torque we could get out of them.

I assumed (my bad, I know, lol,) that the inputs on the Jags, or any other device were high z and so that loading wouldn't be a problem.

I see now that that's not the case.

Thanks for letting me know.

Mike
