Go to Post I think there are a ton of teams that would kill for one let alone three engineering mentors (especially one with the knowledge and experience that Rich Olivera has). - XaulZan11 [more]

Chattering Relay and RSL flashing too fast

I think this post is similar to others regarding the traffic between the DS and the cRIO. We are using C++ with the IterativeRobot class and added a Relay to the code. When in teleop mode, the relay led on the DSC would flicker, the spike would chatter and the RSL led would flash way too fast. After trying everything we could think of we rebooted the DS into developer mode and started the dashboard. The problem was gone when on the Operation tab but still there on the Diagnostics tab. Has anyone else seen this problem and does anyone know how to eliminated it on all tabs? Also, as many others have said, the camera lag time is much, much shorter in developer mode.

Re: Chattering Relay and RSL flashing too fast

The diagnostics tab pings the network elements, so naturally it has more overhead than the others. Also, the DS has quite a bit more overhead when disabled, and even more when the stop button has not been plugged in and isn't bypassed.

Re: Chattering Relay and RSL flashing too fast

We are having the same problems as you with the relays and the signal light but we are programming in JAVA. We have tried switching out the DSC, swapping the module in slot four of the crio, moving that module to slot six, and even trying a different crio because we could not find anything wrong in the code. We did notice that if we took the camara tracking code out of our main code so that we would only have the relays running it helpped but they still flickered. If anyone knows how to fix this that would be much appreciated. Thank You

Re: Chattering Relay and RSL flashing too fast

We are using Labview, but we have been having the same problem. We have a compressor and a fan, but they have been working. Our lift mechanisms have not been working, and have been chattering and flickering. When we swap the pwm while it is running so that the pwm from the compressor is plugged into the lift relay, it works, but not when the code thinks it is a relay. We have been occasionaly having some improvements, but not complete success.

I'm no programmer, or electrical guy. But last year we did have some electrical problems that seemed to react like you're problems. I believe one problem was shorting on the digital sidecar. The other was a small short in the wiring for the camera.

I hope this helps or at least gives you somthing else to look for when debugging!
