FRC 2010 Award for Excellence in Design Submission Process is now open

Greetings Teams!

As promised, here is the information you need to submit your entry for the 2010 Excellence in Design Award sponsored by Autodesk – in Animation or 3D Design. We’ve worked hard to make it easy for you to submit. As always, we suggest that you carve out time to double check to make sure you are in full compliance with submittal requirements. And, of course, you have to meet the deadline! So take one last, close look at the Award requirements in your category; look carefully at the submittal form; then know you’ve done your best…and hit the "submit" button. Good luck!



Here’s all you have to do:

· Step 1: Read the competition entry criteria and requirements

· Step 2: Read the official rules and consent and release authorization

o Please note, you will be required to agree to the official rules and consent and release authorization when submitting your entry

· Step 3: Prepare your files

o 3D Design Competition entries are required to submit:

§ A brief (50 word, maximum) statement of the design problem you set out to solve

§ A sketch (pencil or technology) that illustrates concepts you explored and progress you made designing your robot. (File format: .PDF)

§ An overall Inventor image that best represents your robot design (File format: .JPEG)

§ A 3-D DWF export of the main robot design (File format: .DWF)

§ Autodesk Inventor dataset – In a single compressed ZIP file, include all model and drawing files. (File format: .ZIP not to exceed 500MB in size)

§ 4-5 high quality photos of your final physical robot (front, side, rear, close ups) (File format:.JPEG)

§ A team photo (File format: .JPEG)

o Animation Competition entries are required to submit:

§ Write a brief statement describing the opportunity that you see to Change Your World (50 words, maximum). Identify the challenge you see and how you will meet that challenge.

§ Electronic storyboard of your animation (File format: .PDF or .JPG)

§ QuickTime movie file (.mov format) with a resolution of 720 x 480 only, DV-NTSC codec only, 29.97 frames per second, please keep your entry under 250MB, audio not to exceed -6db or fall under -18db

§ JPG screenshot of your entry

§ If your entry contains audio and it is not original audio, you must provide written consent from the legal copyright owner. (File format: .PDF)

§ A team photo (File format: .JPEG)

· Step 4: Submit your entry by clicking here

o You will first complete a series of questions on page 1, just as in past years.

o You will then upload your files and a description of your design on page 2 of the competition entry.

NOTE- Once you hit submit on the second page your entry will be final so be sure to review your files prior to uploading them. As in past years, you must be an adult member of your team to submit a design.



Remember that the winning teams (one in Animation and the other in 3D Design) will each receive two scholarships to Autodesk University 2010 (AU) – one for a student and the other for a team mentor or coach. Autodesk University is the premier global education, training and networking event for Autodesk customers, combining a deep–learning environment with a mix of professional and social activities. Education classes at AU help current and future engineers and designers learn not only how to use specific Autodesk technology, but also how to use that technology in the context of the design process with high-level design concepts like digital prototyping and sustainability to solve problems, drive innovation, exploit creativity, and make a positive impact in the world. Autodesk University will be held November 30 – December 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
