Team Awards

Team 61 is looking into giving out both team and individual awards this year to our competitors. I know several other teams do this. If your team does, please post a general idea of what your award is and what people have to do to get it. Thanks!

Re: Team Awards

Our team has a tradition of doing this for every regional.
The award has changed and is usually something everyone thinks will be nice.
Last year we gave away little skunks with a CARD indicating the award...
We do different things.

We have our scouting team do this... they look for a variety of things.
Most of all we try to show our appreciation for the effort a team puts in.
It is fun to come up with new awards...

We may have the "Best Rookie Pit" award... or the "Best t-shirt" award
or the "friendliest team" award...."coolest Mascot" .... We never mimic the big awards.... we try and make up new categories...

Try and reward teams for giving their best... just have fun with it.

Remember to make it something special ....
The big awards from FIRST are few and quite specific...Too many times they are given to teams with lots of experience... smaller teams deserve to be recognized too... and sometimes the only awards that teams get are from the other teams... Your award will end up in someone's trophy case...
Make it as nice as you can....

Have fun... recognize excellence.... in whatever form you wish...

Good luck and we will see you at the competition!!

Thanks for the response you have made some great points and going through my rookie year last year I know for a fact that very few teams actually receive awards from FIRST and sometimes one team recieves multiple awards. I will keep this in mind when we distribute our awards.

Re: Team Awards

We give out the following awards at regionals:

Safety
Functional Integrity
Gracious Professionalism
Imagery
Unique Design
Most Creative Component
Spirit

and occasionally a special award

We make them (except for one regional when we couldn't get any) from scrap Corian(r) from our sponsor. You can see them and get instructions to make them at http://www.moe365.org/competitions/Phil09_awards.php

MARS Gives out a remote control robot and a button with their award on it. Some of the categories:

Coolest shirt/uniform
Best pit design
Rookie Award
Unique Robot Design
Best Button

That's all I can think of, I know we gave our more...

Re: Team Awards

We change a little each year but this is a general list...
Most Gracious Team
Most Robust Design
Best Cheering Section
Best Offensive Robot
Best Defensive Robot
Best Alliance Partner
Best Rookie

I think team awards are very special and enjoy when students visit other pits to deliver them on Saturday morning. Make sure you take pictures so you can add them to your history and website.
