Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

Wow, good job. This is strangely close to our design. The only major difference is that we are using 80/20 otherwise it is almost exactly what I caded the other day and what we are just starting to build

Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

Very nice, it seems like you guys traverse the bump with relative ease. The only thing I want to say, since if I don't someone else will, is, first, safety glasses and you shouldn't grab the robot while it's moving. You can skew test results and create an unsafe enviroment. Other than that I look forward to seeing what you guys have for the rest of the bot.

Have you tried it when the robot weighs 150 lbs?

One more thing to mention on a safety note... wearing a neck lanyard, unless it's the 'breakaway' type of lanyard, could be hazardous if it catches on something. Think "motor" or "chain"...

Other than that, the robot looks great. And as others have mentioned, it clears the bump with ease. Good work!

** Hey, I used breakaway in a sentence! **

Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

Nice Job.

However, have you run into any trouble with the mecanum wheels?
It is possible that they will bend with extensive use traveling over the bump.

Look into purchasing spares just in case.

Hadn't thought of that :X.
In any case we have other wheels laying around but I'll bring this up for sure.

And yes it can do it with significant weight!

Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

Looks Great. Team 1071 is also using Mech Wheels, and I know I love them! How did you guys manage with all the jumpiness with the robot. I know when we spin or go over the bumps the control board is going every where, We have a plan with springs in the board but I'm curious what you guys did.

Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

Do you mind disclosing which gearing you used for the drive? My team has 12:1 installed, but we are considering switching to 16:1

Re: Team 818 Mecanum drive

I know we have the CIMs going through the KOP Toughbox, but Im not sure if its just 1:1 out of there to the wheels or not. School is closed here today so I wont be going in to look at it, but I can try to find out tomorrow.
