Adding a monitor to driver station

We had a thought that it would be good to add a second monitor to the classmate and user for the driver station. I can get it setup in developer mode no problem, the problem comes in when I go into driver mode and cannot get to the desktop to configure it. Has anyone had any luck looking at the desktop for the driver user to allow configuration?
Currently we are using a startech.com usb to vga adapter

I understand the rules about powering it from a battery on the driver station and that kind of stuff, I would like more into knowledge or thought from anyone who may have tried this.

Re: Adding a monitor to driver station

You have no control of the desktop during Driver. You only have a Dashboard executable to control things, so unless you can configure it through the Dashboard executable, you cannot control it. What is allowed, though, is to use a different laptop connected to a USB port (probably through a USB-Ethernet adapter) to run Dashboard.

Re: Adding a monitor to driver station

Thank you that is what I needed to take back to the programming team. I dunno if we want to start that this late in the game.

Re: Adding a monitor to driver station

I think this would work... If so, it would be really cool.

Re: Adding a monitor to driver station

Actually, the DS is launched first and it then launches the DB. The default DB code positions itself to the top of the screen and full width for the classmate, but if you open the code, you can keep the titlebar, change the location, etc.

I don't have any experience with the device you are talking about, but if the second monitor simply changes the size of the desktop, you should be able to do this in just a few clicks.

Re: Adding a monitor to driver station

I like the monitor that you posted, the problem is I don;t think that it would work either. I had to change the display settings to extend my monitor to our device and I would think the same would be true with this one. We are in a crunch at this point (surprise surprise) and I have to assist in other things. This will be moved to the off season when we will have more time.

Thank you everyone who offered help!
Good luck in another fun year!
