Classmate Problems

Well, from searching the forums I have found nothing on this problem that we (Team 548, Robostangs) are having with our classmate pc. After about two hours of the classmate being turned on, it overheats and shuts down. Is anyone else having this problem or do we have to send ours back?

Re: Classmate Problems

That definitely sounds like an isolated incident. I wouldn't recommend opening yours up to see if the CPU fan is running as this would probably violate any sort of warranty with FIRST. Call FIRST and ask about tech support/replacement. It might be as simple as a loose wire connecting the fan to the motherboard.

Re: Classmate Problems

We leave ours running 9 hours straight on our weekend build and have no problems.

As a warning, try not to use it. We had a laptop with a bad fan that we couldn't fix. Opened it for the first time this year and found that we couldn't boot. Even on a cooling pad it will just get worse

Download the Driver Station update to some other computer that has LabVIEW installed and install the update. You should be able to use that until you can get a replacement for the classmate.

Re: Classmate Problems

For hardware problems with the FRC Classmate, FIRST has told us to contact the 2gopc help desk directly:

Question Re: Classmate Problems

Anyone else having a issue with the Classmate just blacking out while running code? This happened to us twice : once right after running code and again at about 3 mins into running the same code.

Re: Classmate Problems

What do you mean by blacking out? Screen going black but responds to keyboard? Entire system freezes and DS connection is lost? Most likely the computer is just putting the screen into power save. That can be disabled on the Developer account
