Wiring Solenoids

Hey, our team last year did not use pneumatics on our robot. Since we didn't use them, we've been having a hard time figuring out how to connect the solenoids to the pneumatics bumper module for the cRIO. I have read somewhere that for the first time we don't need to wire the solenoids to the spike relay's as we had to do in the past. So does this mean there are 2 methods for wiring the solenoids? If so would someone be able to direct us on how to do it?

P.S we are using past years 12v SMC double solenoids, because we do not feel too confident about the new ones with all of the problems we've been reading in the forums.

Re: Wiring Solenoids

There's a Pneumatics forum in here that might get more attention to your questions.

... and Team 358 has a very informative page on their website (clicky)

... and there is a Pneumatics manual on the FRC website (clicky)

G/L!

Re: Wiring Solenoids

You can use the old Spike method if you like. That's legal.

For the new Solenoid Breakout you just wire each coil, or side of the single or double solenoid to the 2-pin connectors on the Solenoid Breakout. a set of gray 2-pin female-female cables came in the KOP. These can be cut in half and used to more easily make the connection.

The Solenoid Breakout itself gets power directly from one set of the Power Distribution Panel 20/30a Wago connectors.

Each Solenoid Breakout supports 8 coils, and we are allowed to have two modules using cRIO slots 7 & 8.

Re: Wiring Solenoids

Thanks for the help guys, also how does wiring to the pneumatics bumper module effect the programming? Do you have to 2 open solenoids in the begin vi and 2 solenoid sets in tele-op? Thanks for any help
