Streaming video from the robot

Does anyone know if we are allowed to stream a live video feed from the camera on our robot to our website so we can show our robot in action and archive the video for later use?

If someone could tell me yes or no or where to find this info at that would be great.

Re: Streaming video from the robot

No, that would require the robot to communicate without using the FMS or DS protocols. Having the DS relay the data would also not be allowed, because it would be having a wireless connection other than the one provided.

However, you can have the DS or Robot record the match itself then pull it off later and upload it to your site. the Dashboard already has a VI to do this, you configure the interval and max. # of images and it will take pictures and save them for you.

Re: Streaming video from the robot

I highly doubt that you can do it live. Phase 1: If you aren't using the camera as a robot sensor, you'll need to declare it to FIRST engineering for clearance to use it at the event. If they don't pass it, you can't do it anyway. If you're using the sensor on the robot, you'll need to go through the Classmate, which shouldn't be using its built-in wireless anyway (there are a number of rules that could easily cover this).

Phase 2: Given that you legally do it as mentioned above, you now have to get to the internet reliably. Not easy, and technically not quite legal.

Rules covering this can be found in Section 3, Section 7, Section 8, and Section 9 of the Manual.

Re: Streaming video from the robot

One option would be to put a standard DV video camera on your robot. I've seen teams do that in the past, but you'll probably have to ask about it on the Q&A. Also, it would have to be in the weight/size of your robot.
