Okay, so we have to open the motors in begin.vi? How would we do that? Do we need to open everything, i.e compressor, joystick, etc... in begin? How would we do that? And if we do that what else would we need to do? Do we need to make references in the auto.vi and the teleop.vi? How do we make these references?

He's referring to one of the two ways to do robot programming in LabVIEW last year. This year, there's just the one style, called "FRC cRIO Robot Project". You don't need to know this, but it most closely resembles last year's Advanced framework. 2009's Basic Framework is not used in 2010.
