One of our upper years brought this up at the University of Waterloo Engineering Society meeting tonight... so I would guess that means +50 CE...

Here's a couple of thoughts as we continue to add our vote information -

A toy can provide an opportunity that helps a child learn and develop. If Barbie is a doll with cool clothes that the child plays with in a familiar environment such as a playroom, the child's imagination can be stimulated and encouraged to help the child think, true. If Barbie is taken out of the familiar environment and placed in an environment to help develop the imagination and thinking processes in areas such as the ones mentioned here in the thread, how much more fun for the child. There's always possibilities and opportunities for helping dreams become realities.

So yeah...uh...Pepto Bismol (sp?) pink in the morning...not a happy way to start the day...BUT got in a vote for CE Barbie...before now Barbie was only good for target practice when I was a kid but now she may actually grow a brain...what is this world coming to?

As an environmental engineer, the term "environmentalist" made my skin crawl. All i could picture was a tree-hugging...well I won't go farther than that.

If it had been environmental scientist, environmental engineer, environmental manager, or so on, it would have had my vote in a minute.

Looks like Barbie is going to be a Computer Engineer and a News Anchor.

EDIT: Interesting to note the Girls' Vote and the Popular Vote. Also, interesting to note how each will be dressed and what that reflects/says about stereotypes, even though it seems that this opportunity is created to work towards making inroads in diversity in the work force and to help girls understand that they can achieve in any field they are interested in. We still have such a long long way to go. The computer engineer looks cool, though - I'm liking the glasses.

WHOOO! As a girl who was always geeky, and never liked Barbie, I am excited! This might actually get more women into engineering!!! (Though I must say, I wish they had not put PINK onto her outfit and computer...)

I agree completely (although I cringed at the glasses personally). The girls on my team work very hard to try and achieve the same respect as the guys. What's funny is that Championships lands the same weekend as our Jr/Sr prom and the girls are all saying, "I don't care about prom, if we make it to Championships I'll wear my prom dress to Atlanta!" and all the guys are saying, "My girlfriend is already mad at me just thinking about the possibility of us making it to Atlanta!"...what does that tell you?

They were drivers, right?

And I love the pink. I had to start wearing glasses in high school and I got rose pink frames with rose-colored lens. I saw the world through my rose-colored glasses and I was a happy girl.
