Unhappy 24v Conflict with cRIO and Solenoid

I am from team 3374 and we are a brand new team; I am wondering how we are supposed to connect the solenoid break-out. It needs a 24v power supply to make the KOP solenoids work; however, in the competition rules rule <R45> A. States "The cRIO-FRC power input must be connected to the 24 Vdc supply terminals of the Power Distibution Board. No other electrical load can be connected to these terminals." I found an article about how to connect the solenoids and it said that connecting the solenoid break-out was correct. Can anyone help me with this?

Re: 24v Conflict with cRIO and Solenoid

Carter, The solenoid module has a series of relays that are closing contacts. The 24 volt solenoids can be fed from the Crio 24 volt output on the PD. However, there is only enough reserve to feed 8 valves and no more. If you have a combination of 12 and 24 volts valves, you need to add a second module.
There are a few threads on CD that explaining this in detail.

Re: 24v Conflict with cRIO and Solenoid

As a rookie you probably don't know about the updates that come out (or your team contact didn't forward them to you.) This was covered in an update. You need to download the updated manual.

<R45> A. The cRIO-FRC power input must be connected to the 24 Vdc supply terminals on the Power Distribution Board. With the exception of one Solenoid Breakout Board, no other electrical load can be connected to these terminals.

It's a good idea to check for these at least twice a week at usfirst.org.
Have fun and happy roboting.

Re: 24v Conflict with cRIO and Solenoid

Carter,
Section 8 is revised as Team Updates make changes, were are now up to Rev H. Following Team Update #2, a revision to the power distribution diagram was made, that is at Rev A.
