Mechanum wheels?

How are you guys using mechanum wheels driving them?
What on your driver station allows you to turn your robot opposed to translating?

Re: Mechanum wheels?

We have always used a two joystick setup-
One joystick is traditional arcade drive (forward/backward, turning)
The second joystick is for strafing. Moving that joystick left or right will strafe the robot left or right. The y-axis does nothing.

Re: Mechanum wheels?

We've got things set up with tank drive, so pushing one joystick forward and the other backward makes the robot turn. Left and right motion on the joysticks makes it slide sideways. We might change this based on driver preference, to put arcade control on one joystick and strafe on the other, the way Bryan describes.

Re: Mechanum wheels?

We went with the Logitech 3d Joystick. Twist to rotate.

Re: Mechanum wheels?

We're set up with a Xbox controller. The control scheme is similar to your standard FPS game. Left analog does forward/backward and left/right strafe, right stick turns
