1918 NC Gears Week 5 Pictures

Team 1918 is sprinting toward the finish line (although it's never truly "finished") with a week left before it goes into the bag. It climbs, it turns on a dime, it does flips, it captures the ball anywhere in its wide mouth, it kicks the ball over a bump with the extra-wide foot. We're still working on the lift, cover plate, and decorations.

The kicker uses a linear motion "T-bar" plunger and a hinged flap. It is charged and triggered with a rotary crank. The drive mechanism also releases the mast (not installed yet) and powers the lift winch.

We hope it all holds together.

GO TEAMS!

Nice looking design. Remember that bumpers are mandatory this year and that could impede on it (successfully) doing flips. If you have managed to get to to do controlled flips with bumpers then good job!

We still need to finish the bumpers (and secure the wiring).

Our kicker drive was inspired by your 2008 drive wheel & crank mechanism. I never saw it, but it was described to us. We use two sets of ratchets & pawls, oriented in opposite directions to perform different functions, depending on the direction of power shaft rotation.

Re: 1918 NC Gears Week 5 Pictures

Wayne, those cutouts around the wheels scare me. I hope the wheels don't extend beyond the vertical extension of your FRAME PERIMETER. Hopefully that little extra piece of aluminum where the BUMPERS will attach will save you. The same applies to the axle ends extending from the sides. The GDC clarified the "minor protrusions" are not excluded in Team Updates 6 and 7.
