Relationships

Are they really vital? Do we need relationships in high school or earlier, or can they wait till later....I know everyone wants to be happy, and I don't think I could ever be happy without knowing a person will be there to talk to, that someone cares about me.....I dunno....just a starting point.....talk amongst yourselves!

In some families, your told to wait till after H.S. and your careers started. In others your told to do what you think is right. Its pretty much up to you. Relationships are not vital but there somewhat of a good way to start a private / personal social life. Best bet though unless your a really mature person your better off waiting. you'll know when the relationship becomes essential in your life

its not a very important thing. and i find its better for you if you don't have a girlfriend (or in girls cases a boyfriend) because you can devote yourself to something such as robotics and not have to worry about pleasing someone with your time. or then you get people on your team who get a girlfriend mid way through building, and thye join, and are in general completely useless and make that person who was once a good member of your team useless, so relationships are something i avoid

hmmm I have to disagree, unless that was a generalization (Im guessing it was). I think in hs there are a lot of people who can't handle having a gf and getting seriously involved in robotics. However, I think there are plenty of students out there who can easily handle it, and it should really be judged (for lack of a better term) on a case by case basis. However, you should know if you're able to handle a relationship and FIRST at the same time.

I dunno, every girl i have liked didn't/doesn't like me. I don't think you need to have a girlfriend to be happy or complete, you just need companionship. Girlfriends are just friends with benifits, and if you don't need the benifits then the friends you have work fine. I think a girlfriend is someone that i can hang out with and talk to. I can do that with my friends, i just don't kiss em . All we need is love, and that can come from friends, people just need to care. I think everyone needs love, plain and simple. All I want is love

It also depends on the person you're dating, i know my girlfriend, at the time, was very understanding with me and robotics, since it was when we were at competitions and what not.

Gotta disagree with you there...A friend with benefits is just someone you fool around with, whereas a girl- or boyfriend kind of implies some kind of emotional attachment.

i think you have to find the right person too. you can't just walk up to a random boy/girl in school and say "want to go out tonight?" and expect much to happen. sure, you could get lucky, but it think you really have to talk to the person, and get to know them, before you can become 'an item'. if you can't find the right person, then there's no reason why you need to have a relationship in high school. of course, if you do find someone who is more or less your soulmate, well, be very happy you found someone, and go and do whatever pleases both of you. it just seems to me that unless you really know what you're getting into, high school relationships are a waste of time, and they just make you cry when it doesn't work, even though deep down inside you knew it would never work in the first place.

I think that having relationships in High School is a good thing, even if the relationship doesn't work out or if there is a lot of pain involved. Learning how to Love is like learning how to read or do math, and the sooner you start... the better, because it will be difficult at times. When two students enter a relationship, they are given an opportunity to learn about friendship, dedication, social well-being, time management, and to learn about themsleves as individuals by assessing what they did and did not like about their partner.

I have experienced a lot of personal growth by being paired up with others, and though the relationship may not have lasted and included a lot of pain, I've grown into a better and wiser person. I've also discovered a lot about myself that I otherwise would not have known, including knowing what I want in other people if I were to consider being in a relationship again.

So take the risk or avoid it, its your choice. It is a good idea to know the other person before you start dating them. I've seen this happen too... if you have a best friend of the opposite sex and you just do not see you two going out as a 'couple,' that just might be the best partner that you can have. Both of you can be comfortable and neither of you should have to change. And if you do get into a relationship, don't start acting like the stereotypical boyfriend or girlfriend, be YOURSELF. There is such a thing as unspoken love.

I'm full of interesting views There has to be, somewhere, someone who breaks up the homogeneity that exists in FIRST. I just know it.

As for my PM's. . . I'll go clean out my fan mail right now. Sorry, everyone. I still love you all.

FIRST and relationships usually go fine for me...the past 2 build season I have had a relation with someone on my team...robotics came first to me and they knew that and understood that...come on they knew from the beginning that I am a robotic dork...

High school relationships are important I think...from the beginning one should know that it prolly won't last forever though...You learn things about yourself when you are in them...at least I have...

err...I'll prolly add more later...
