Bumps or Tunnels

Yes, I know you read the title of the thread thinking: Oh, tunnel/bumps threads are soooo week 1. Well, yes, you may be right. However, our team is making some last-minute changes, and changing our robot from a bump one, to a tunnel one. I know that many people answered threads saying that they would go over bumps, but I am curious as to how many people's robots are actually going over bumps. And by that, I mean fully tested and doing so. So, how many teams will be actually going over the bumps at competition?

EDIT: $@#$@#$@#$@#, I made it Over the tunnel. I mean UNDER or THROUGH the tunnel. Sorry for typo

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

We won't know whether it will do either at competition until we actually compete, but we already know it can do both.

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

Where is the "Our robot can go through the tunnel" option?

You have over the bump and over the tunnel

Pretty sure that could qualify as "other methods of changing zones"

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

We have designed it to do both, whether our drivers will do both is another question.

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

Well, I would say it depends on the driver's skills. Going under the tunnel is much easier when it comes to driving, while going over the bump, from what I have seen, is much more difficult when it comes to driving. One problem with the tunnel is that it will have to be much more compact of a robot, which if you are going to build a kicker, could seriously weaken its potential.

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

Because we have Mechanum wheels and our chassis is so close to the ground, we decided on going through the tunnels instead of over the bumps.

Because our camera pops out from the top of our robot after we start, we have to lower it every time we go through a tunnel or else it might get ripped off...

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

our robot is a one zone bot... our strategy is to collect balls to get to our alliance... we can play all three zones... but our main zone is the middle zone

Re: Bumps or Tunnels

Our Robot can both go over the bump, and through the tunnel.

We go over the bump pretty easily. We don't have to do much other than square up a little and then drive over it like wasn't there . If we go fast enough over it's scary seeing it FLY over the bump, and then land flat on all wheels on the other side. It has been tested, and is robust enough to handle that.
