Editing in links to pictures...

Right now, before any events and most robot reveals, some of the favorites for this year in my opinion include 1714, 2062, 2169, 2177, 2194 2502, 2826, and 2704. There are a lot of teams who showed strength last year who could have quietly improved, including 2704, 2861, 3007, 2825, 2846, and 2470. Though if last year is any indication, this regional is a prime breeding ground for competitive rookie teams to show their stuff. This event is also one of the hardest Rookie All-Star events; the competition is so deep that last year, one team that won no rookie awards went on to win the Championship Rookie Inspiration award.

----

1714 put up a really impressive preship video yesterday with a suction possession mechanism and kicker. Their offensive versatility (can travel under or over, possess well, high traction shifting drive) should serve them well in the field. 2062's got a mecanum drive and a side hanger that is capable of supporting additional robots; they could be the only robot at the event to do that.

2022 is no longer called IRS, we have change our name. (Last time, I swear) We are now Seraphim Engineering.

I am going to see if I can get images of our robot to put up later tonight.

All names are straight from The Blue Alliance.

Added in 2177, who looks like they'll at least be matching their Finalist appearance in Minnesota for the third year in a row. Hopefully this is the year they break on through and win the gold!

here is ours for 3297....http://jacketbots.webs.com/apps/phot...otoid=71474507

We have two kickers which are harder to see in the picture but one is a plunger and one is a "foot" like kicker... we also have vaacuum system set up to suck the ball in. This is our rookie year and we were pleased with our results so far...

Looks promising! Another suction team at 10,000 Lakes, do I spot a trend? o.0 Added to the list.

Its our first year and we were happy. It took a lot of mistakes to make a working robot though...Hopefully all will go well at the competition. We are still trying to figure out the kickers some of the other teams have, especially with how far they shoot.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional

How could I almost forget to predict this event?

To be blunt, 10,000 Lakes has always been a weak event. It's less about finding diamonds in the rough here as much as it is finding anyone particularly strong. The #1 alliance will likely take the event, since there will be a very limited number of robots to contribute to their alliance.

Biggest name here? 1714. They won the event last year and show no signs of slowing. 1714 is all about continuous improvement, and if they improve on the same scale they did in 2009, then there is no stopping them. (In 2009, 1714 went from missing elims in Wisconsin to the first overall selection in Minnesota...). That being said, there are some significant question marks for them. They played the near zone almost exclusively in Wisconsin, and without Wildstang to help them out, they will have to be much more flexible than that if they want to carry an alliance and seed high. 1714 hasn't been in a picking position since 2008, so they may have to rely on the #1 Captain being complementary if they don't change something.

525 has switched into 10,000 Lakes. They have won this event before back in 2008, and they have a robot that's already won an event against an alliance which would later all win blue banners. They must be doing something right. Their consistent hanging ability will be unique and the 2 points alone should be enough to push them into the top few slots. A partner like 1714 would secure their second blue banner for them right at alliance selection.

2062 played well at a stronger event than Wisconsin, and is the only robot capable of suspension at the event. Cooperative driving and improvements to their robot will be needed to push to the very top, but success at this event is not at all an impossible dream for CORE. My prediction? Winning alliance or not, they'll punch their ticket for Atlanta here.

2177 has consistently been in the final match at Minnesota, and they certainly aren't bad this year. Another hanging robot who competed decently at a weaker event than this one, they have pulled upsets before at Minnesota and doing it again is more than possible. Maybe some suspension points with 2062?

2194 and 2826 are both strong teams from Wisconsin, the latter younger but enjoying more success. The possibility of 1714 and 2826 pairing up again is something definitely worth significant consideration. I don't know much about their robots, though.

2502 is the wild card. The EWCP's protege, they have been reaching for greater and greater heights this year, with an innovative robot that does things just a bit differently. They should be on everyone's radar screens as they could swing the event.

From memory from Wisconsin:
2194 played almost exclusively in the close zone and seemed to really drive well with the mecanum wheels. Not much of a kicker, but their good driving allowed them to be one of the better close zone scorers.

2826 played mostly in zone 3 and zone 2. With their big kicker, they were easily able to clear balls from the far zone. I don't recall them playing much in the first zone, meaning they will likely need good partners in order to score and thus seed well.

My prediction of the event: If 1714 gets on an alliance that can get balls to the close zone, they should be the heavy favorites to win. Chris is correct that if they only play in the close zone, they better hope for strong qualification partners to feed them balls if they want to seed high. On the bright side, there appears to be several teams that would compliment them very well (525, 2062, 2826).

The only reason we played in the front zone so much is because we realized we are so good in the front. Dont be suprised if we move around a bit more.

Re: 2010 Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional

We won't need to pull any upsets in Minnesota... providing we don't have the same type of luck we had in St. Louis Of our 12 qualification matches, 7 were played 2v3 (against us) due to missing, not working, or flipped during autonomous mode robots. Needless to say, playing this game 2v3 puts your team at a serious disadvantage.

Despite that, we would have won the quarter finals (yet another of our famous upsets) if not for a heap of DOGMA penalties in the second match, or some bad luck with our hanger in the third.

BTW, we've fixed the hanger so it won't slip off like it did in that third match (which was also the first time it had slipped).
