#4 from last numbered post -- we now have 12V signal on Classmate after installing and powering analog bumper. Why is that bumper needed -- well, other than to get the voltage on the Classmate?!

It's necessary just for the battery voltage feedback.
A lot of things going wrong on a robot are traceable to low battery conditions, especially on the playing field. The field staff monitors robot voltages and notifies teams of bad batteries, low batteries, and non-batteries  Quote:

The 12 volt jumper is also the feedback that tells the Crio when the battery is falling to the point the 24 volt power supply will not keep running. The Crio inhibits all output when the power supply falls below 5.5 volts. The 24 volt supply drops out about 4.5 volts. The Crio inhibit is a safety feature to prevent the robot from running by itself.
