Joystick Read modification to breakout joystick buttons

We are trying to breakout buttons using the 'Joystick Read' subvi within teleop. We have been able to add the buttons and save the changes to the 'joystick read' subvi, but the added buttons do not appear as 'pins' on the 'joystick read' icon and hence we cannot hook up to the new buttons. We have deleted the instance of 'joystick read' in the teleop program and have added it back in, but the added buttons still do not appear.
Can anyone help with this?

Re: Joystick Read modification to breakout joystick buttons

  1. The buttons first need to appear on the Joystick Read.vi front panel by using Create -> Indicator for each button you want.
  2. Then, in the Joystick Read.vi front panel right-click on the icon in the top right and choose "Show Connector"
  3. There will be several colored boxes and many more white boxes. These are called terminals.
  4. Left-click on one of the available white terminal boxes, then left-click on the button in the front panel that you want to come out of that terminal.
  5. If you make a mistake you can right-click on a terminal and choose "Disconnect This Terminal" to start over.
  6. Save when you're done.
  7. You should now see a new terminal on Joystick Read in Teleop.vi
  8. Sometimes, if the changes are major wherever it's used it will be grayed out. If that happens you'll need to right-click on it's icon in Teleop.vi and choose "Relink To SubVI". A major change would be changing the connector terminal pattern, not just adding buttons to the existing pattern.
P.S. If you don't have enough terminals you can right-click on the connector icon and choose Patterns to see a lot more choices.
