2010 Alliance Selection Results

Hello all,

As you may or may not know, since 2004 Team 1114 has been publishing an extensive scouting database for the FIRST Community to use in preparation and during the FIRST World Championship. Past databases can be found here. All the data found in these databases is mined from the results posted by FIRST on www.usfirst.org. Unfortunately, FIRST has a habit of not tracking the proper order of alliances. The system for the past few years has made no distinction between the Alliance Captain, 1st Pick and 2nd Pick. This information makes up a pretty important portion of the database. In the past we've been able to get this information by scouring CD and by some reverse engineering of the standings. Unfortunately with 48 regional/district events, this task is becoming much more difficult leading to more gaps in the database. As such, we're asking for your help.

What I ask is that for every regional this year, one person posts the full results from alliance selection in this thread. Here's an example form Waterloo 2006.

Event: Waterloo 2006

1.) 1114 1503 1281 W
2.) 1219 1596 912 SF
3.) 188 610 771 F
4.) 1680* 1901 931 QF
5.) 68* 1305 1558 SF
6.) 854 830 1189 QF
7.) 1846 772 859 QF
8.) 1084 781 1605 QF
* Declined Team 1219

All that's necessary is that you post the alliances in the order that they were selected. Keeping track of declines is a nice bonus. If you really want to go the extra mile you can add in the overall finish of the alliance as shown in the example, but it's not critical.

Most scouts already write this stuff down during alliance selection, so it's just a matter of one person from each regional remembering to keep that scrap of paper until they get home and posting it here. Or, if you're watching on a webcast jots things down as you watch and then post away.

As added incentive, I'll give out some form of Team 1114 gear to every person who posts at least three correct, non duplicated, regional results.

Thanks from all of us who put together this database, especially Roberto.

I'll post everything / the first three events I see on the webcasts as it happens. I was already planning on helping out at my own events and stuff, but then I read the second to last line of your post.

I will hopefully get this info for you at the Traverse City District this weekend.

Also do you guys need any past results, or are you just looking for this years results?

Re: 2010 Alliance Selection Results

I can do NJ regional and Virginia (Former VCU) regional. I will rank the alliances from winners to QF eliminated alliances. I'll also state alliance numbers, who played who, and the teams within each alliance. May I use my version of recording?

Ex:
A1- (#, #, #)
A2- (#, #, #)
...
A8- (#, #, #)

A1- W
A2- F (lost to A1)
A3- SF (lost to A2)
A4- SF (lost to A1)
A5- QF (lost to A4)
A6- QF (lost to A3)
A7- QF (lost to A2)
A8- QF (lost to A1)

Hey Eric,

Thanks for offering to help! I'd prefer it if you used the format that I described (it displays all the info that you'd post, since FIRST uses a consistent bracket, e.g. 1v8, 4v5, 2v7, 3v6), but ultimately it's up to you. As long as we get the information of who was selected in the proper order, it's all good.

Re: 2010 Alliance Selection Results

Karthik, as this is part of the FiM scoring it should all be available on the FiM website. (As I recall that is Jim Zondag having people text it to him as the events go) we had planned on seeing if we could consistently figure it out based on the data on FIRST's website. I will definitely let you know if I get that running.

Thanks, Andrew. Last year the FiM events were the easiest for us to get the results for as everything was displayed correctly on their website. If you can figure out how to automate the process from the results on the FIRST website, that would be amazing.

On a related note, I do plan on getting FRCFeed back up, hopefully tomorrow night (if FIRST puts up some data for me to test with) so it will hopefully automate your collection of match data too. I'll work with Clinton on getting the automated alliance stuff up hopefully by next week.

No problem! I'll use your method, but I will re-arrange it with my method

Ex:

A6) F (#,#,#)
etc...

I don't know for sure but I would assume that Karthik is looking for people to use his format so it is easier to paste into Excel (or parse and use for whatever he wants to use it for)

With a standard format he can just copy and paste the block and every regional will look the same, If the format is different (even if it is only slightly different) the data becomes more difficult to parse and cannot be simply copied and pasted into Excel.
