What makes first week regionals so exciting is you can never quite know what to expect. After six weeks of working on robot design and strategy, everyone is always incredibly eager to try things out. What you may have thought was a strategy that would never work might actually win you the regional.

This is also why I love week 1 events. The playing field is level. Nobody has played the game yet, and therefore nobody has "figured it out" yet. I prefer regionals where nobody has any idea how their robot, or any other robot will perform in match situations. Having expected winners due to previous week's regional winners sort of deflates the excitement.
