Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

Second day of GRKC regional is done and what an exciting day it was.
WInnovation didnt disappoint, ending today seeded at number one followed closely by 1209(Robo Hornets) and 932 (curcuit chargers), followed by 2345(us, somehow?), 1094, 935, 1763, and 525 are the top of the seeding after the first day of true coopertition.

1625? #1 seed? Whoda thunk!

1986 is playing a lot better than they normally do their first event. If I were a scout, they'd be high on my list, even if they scare the crap out of me with every bump crossing.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

I know what you mean about them going over the bump, it scares the crap out of me too. They have been doing decent, except one or two that they flipped all the way over.

KC has made its self out to be a really tight competition this year. Really excited to see how it all plays out tommorrow.

That match strategy would not be good for the game or FRC. I hope we don't see teams resorting to this.
I agree - the bad kind of collusion is only when BOTH alliances agree to a strategy that will give them a seeding advantage over the rest of the field. It is not against the spirit of this game, FIRST or GP if all teams on ONE alliance all agree to a strategy that is advantageous to just their alliance.
My opinion is that any one alliance is allowed to follow any strategy within the rules that will maximize their chance of winning or seeding higher. There is no rule against doing nothing, defending your own goal or scoring for your opponent regardless of the intent behind the strategy.

BTW - I do not like that the rules allow this or encourage it in some cases. But that is a different topic.

Has the general FIRST community finally cracked the lid on Pandora's box here?

Will it ever collectively understand what the seeding point system means, and how it affects match strategy in quals?

We're a big step closre now that 1 week qualifications are almost over, but I'm interested in seeing how teams react tomorrow morning, knowing that many will want to have a big "seeding points push" to gain some spots. I see a few lightbulbs turning on...

I think most moderately serious strategy teams have fleshed this one out, but I can't imagine what would happen if the majority of teams went into a regional willing and able to execute this strategy.

I barely know what I'll do if we're faced with an alliance that does this to us...

Actually... that's a lie. I know exactly what I would do, and it kind of annoys me.

We flipped during our first two matches because a sensor got unplugged. The problem has been resolved.

We have an autopilot program that reliable finesses our robot over the bump. The gyro sensor that it uses to do this happens to be mounted on a surface that the drive team was picking up the robot by. Our first two matches were played with the gyro unplugged.

We now have a guard around the gyro sensor and are lifting the robot with different surfaces.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

Soooo. The second day wasn't the best for 1723. Our bot had lot of programming errors and bad connections and our head electrical guy isn't here because of not-so-great-grades Umm, one of our people had a asthma attack, but a lot of the teams around us came to help us all look for her inhaler (yay for teams!).

Some of our spirit people started losing their voices (including myself), but I brought 60 cough drops I did some cool flagging with our green flag with my color guard skills.

Who else here got their shirt signed my Woodie?

I'm more scared that if you were on my alliance and someone from either side accidentally or intentionally bumped into you, rolling all the way over could happen. Now go out there and prove me wrong.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

1723, sorry for the previous comments. Really! I was reading some threads elsewhere on CD about the new scoring/seeding thing, then went to view the KC regional webcast, and then all of a sudden I see 3 blue bots apparently not moving much, while 3 red ones were, and I jumped to a (really dumb) conclusion...

Last year we were in a similar situation at the NYC regional (minus the asthma attack!)

Good luck to you and the rest of the teams at the KC regional!

14-0, scored by both alliances working together? Pretty impressive. I really like seeing the coopertition rules being taken advantage of. Great job teams.

13 with penalties. The score was 9-0 before the halfway mark, so the red alliance sandbagged. No idea why 234 didn't turn around and make short range shots.

I would imagine they agreed to this before the match.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

I don't quite think that's how 234 rolls...

What stacked alliances, huh. 1625 / 16 / 2410, 1785 / 1986 / 1730, should be intense.
