Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

Seems 1625 and 16 are out there proving Car Nack wrong, with multiple high scoring elimination matches. Autonomus stacked with 1625's transition play, 16's ball control, and 2410 sealing the deal equals awesomeness. Now time for the finals!

Congrats to 2345 525 and 931! I was literally on the edge of my seat with that one.

What stacked alliances, huh. 1625 / 16 / 2410, 1785 / 1986 / 1730, should be intense.
Either way it shouldn't be painted in a negative context. If it was or if it wasn't, it was great play, and a great match. This is part of the game this year, would be awesome to see 20 + points scored by 6 v 0.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

What a great regional! I got to talk to the inventor of the 1625 linkage (special name?). I got to meet Woodie Flowers. There were far too many awesome robots to mention them all. I learned about pneumatics from 1986. I talked drivetrain with 1939. AND, I got to compete in the finals! (Thanks 16 and 1625)

My favorite moment (other than being mentioned on CD) was before the final match. Our mentor on the pit crew says "Jeff, Hold out your hand". This didn't make sense to me at the time, but I did anyway. He starts laughing hystericlly and I look at my hand and my fingers are twitching all over the place. He says "Nervous much?".

Great regional. Special thanks to team 935, 1986 and 1730 for constanly loaning us hardware and fasteners. And to team 2461 for giving us a victor. And of course thanks is due to our alliance, teams 16 and 1625. They both have amazing robots and teams should watch out for them.

We did not know the plans of the other alliance before the match, but they became obvious in the stands pretty quickly. Surprisingly, though, the red robots in the middle zone continued to play defense on our MZ advancer through the match. Otherwise, I think we could have scored 20.

I thought the event was great and will have more thoughs when I'm not typing on a phone on the bus. Congrats to the winning alliance and a huge thanks to all of our partners.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

Just wanted to congratulate teams on one of the most exciting and fun filled regionals I have seen in awhile. All weekend Team Driven talked about the incredible amount of competition here and how we knew that any regional with only one rookie was going to be tough.

A special thanks to our elimination alliance captain 1785 and our other alliance partner 1986. We had a blast and are happy that you guys selected us.

More congratulations are in order for teams 2345, 525, and 931. Great job. Also great job by teams 1625, 16, and 2410 for making it an absolutely great end to an incredible competition.

Hope to see you all back next year and good luck in the rest of your season.

Yeah, it was such an out of the box idea (for the KC regional) that our alliance decided not to bring up the strategy just in case it met opposition. The students decided that it was best to go in and hit it hard just in case your alliance decided to fight it (for whatever reason). While the plan was to try and get 30 points so that the highest ranked team on your alliance got 1st and our team and one alliance partner would get 2nd and 3rd in seeding, it at least got our two alliance teams in 7th and 8th. Considering before the match 935 was ranked 11th, the results speak for themselves.

Personally I don't necessarily like that the rules can be exploited like that, but without the ruling concerning points for the losing team, a bad alliance could completely wreck a good team's chances. It's definitely a catch 22 condition.

Regardless, nice work guys! All of you! I was very pleased with this regional.

Being on the field volunteering all three days, I had the opportunity to see all the great teams in attendance. The matches today were action packed the whole way through! The end game is so awesome!

Congratulations to all the teams at the Greater Kansas City Regional 2010.

This was not a strategy agreed by both alliances. Red decided to do it on their own. (we were blue)

When we realized the scoring going on, we (234) tried to score for red, but were pretty heavily defended. That was actually smart for the red, because we were also in the chase for the top 8, and so keeping out seeding points the same gain as theirs kept them ahead of us.

We did a similar strategy in an earlier match, but for different reasons. As an alliance, we knew we would be outgunned, so we decided to score for the other alliance from the start. But it ended with a very low scoring match because the other alliance began to heavily defend us after we scored the first goal for them.

Quick question, because the winning alliance was penalized were you awarded 13 points where the losing alliance was awarded 14? I thought this was the correct interpretation of the rules, just not sure if I've got that straight.

Yes.

The winning alliance gets their 'penalized' score + 2X the losing alliance unpenalized score.

The losing alliance gets the unpenalized winning score.

The tipping was entirely the result of the unplugged gyro that manages our decent. We have never had that happen before or since. We were stable in many crossings the rest of the tournament. I can't really envision a situation where a bump from another robot could cause it. It was the result of too much speed on the down side of the bump, and another robot would have to be pushing us from behind on the down side of the bump, which would be both difficult and penalized. Any contact from in front of us would only make it less likely. We don't foresee this ever happening again.

Re: Kansas City Regional - 2010

Team 525 Swartdogs would like to thank everyone who organized and volunteered for the Greater Kansas City Regional. It takes a lot of effort to make these events happen and we appreciate the time and energy you put into it.

We also want to thank team 2345 for making us their alliance selection and 931 for joining us. We made a great team and had some exciting matches on Saturday afternoon. The finals matches with 1625, 16, and 2410 were were exciting all the way to the last seconds of the third match.

Thanks to all the teams at the GKC Regional for making this a great event. Everyone should be going home happy as Woodie asked us to do.
